  2. played it on the radio last month...can't remember, but i do think it had a little bit of styrene distortion here and there. i like the flip too. is this a rare record? i never thought so.
  3. interesting...i have an ernie fields record called "cockroach walk" on bb, credited to ernie fields and cockroach. it's basically just the instrumental backing to "broadway boogaloo" by guy maurice, also on bb....
  4. hi, markus. i agree that the label definitely looks fake. typefaces aren't quite right, either. jackie shane wasn't alone in his dressing habits on the soul scene. bobby marchan was a female impersonator....i won't even bring up esquerita (s.q. reeder, eskew reeder) or little richard....and didn't arthur conley actually live out his days as a woman after leaving the u.s., or have i been misled?
  5. can't be that rare, as i have it too! anyone want it? clean copy, make an offer.
  6. ending in less than three hours...still at reasonable prices!!

i never understood why z.z.'s great "don't make promises you can't keep" wasn't bigger...especially as it shares a backing track with a much rarer northern biggie (whose identity escapes me at the moment...anyone??)...

there are also some superfluous guitar fills and a ride cymbal that clutters things up

  20. sorry to hijack, but that's one of four great ones i know of on the detroit aquarius: domestic five soul in-pressions ultimate ovation can't recall fourth one...red label instead of multicolored...sweet soul backed with funk instrumental... anyone know any other releases??
  21. obviously i'm not THAT smart, as i've allowed myself to be drawn into this nonsense. a record tip for you, though, james: metros, "time changes things" (rca)...you should be able to pick it up for around a tenner.
  22. a hypothetical question for the troubleman: what if, all other circumstances in your tale being the same, the dj had played instead the well-known, cheap metros' version of the song (which to my ears isn't significantly worse than the willie kendrick)? what would your reaction to that have been? would a mid-spin needle lift have been in order??
  23. oh, my gosh, this is one of the most unintentionally hilarious things i've seen in months. man up, james. could you be any more self-important?
  24. it is the same tuba, though, yes. novelty record. tuba released soul, jazz, folk, gospel, pop, and this one. mickey shorr was a detroit record/audio retailer whose business was next door to the tuba/music merchants office for a time. hey may have been a radio dj too.
