  1. One of the few great records where the 12" version knocks the 7" into a cocked hat

This Tampa trio featuring Brenda Hillard, Albert Bailey, and Zulema Cusseaux(ex-Lovells from the 60's) began recording for Maxwell in 1970, produced by Van McCoy. 'So Much Love' reached 14 on the R&B charts for Maxwell. Zulema left the group after the "Heavy Love" album, some sources say 1971 but it may have been in '72. Her first solo album was issued on Sussex while the label was still issuing FHC singles which had been recorded before she left. Brenda Hilliard and Albert Bailey continued as a duo, Brenda and Albert, with one release on a short-lived Sussex subsidiary label Clarama 1200 (1974) 'Talking About Loving You / This Has Happened Before'. The group then reformed with Diane Destry in place of Zulema and signed to RCA as part of a production deal that Van McCoy had with the label.'To Each His Own' hit the charts in 1975. The group had one last hit, "Don't Pity Me" in 1978, which was an R&B Top 20 release. Single releases 2 on Maxwell 5 on Sussex 6 on RCA (Victor) 1 on Weayz 1 on WEA 2 on 20th Century LPs "Faith hope & Charity" (1970 Maxwell) "Heavy love" (1972 Sussex) "Faith Hope & Charity" (1975 RCA Victor) "Life goes on" (1976 RCA) "Don't pity me" (1977 20th Century) "Faith hope & charity" (1978 20th Century)
  3. As an occassional ebay seller. I normally charge £2 to send a 45. Forgetting the cost of postage and packaging, the real cost is in me getting there. It can be 1 hour round trip to my nearest post office, thanks to many of the smaller ones having been closed. Maybe you should take this into consideration before thinking £2.50 is overpricing. As for the Ebay free postage scam, they still don't appear to have changed it back. Grrrr
  4. ...and your on a soul forum? Only kidding. You're missing out on one of the greatest songs made IMHO.
  5. Donny by a few zillion country miles
  6. The Pointer Sisters also did a version in the 7ts on Blue Thumb
  7. Written by Kenny Gamble, Leon Huff, & Roland Chambers to be exact. Nice tune.
  8. Obviously the threat of legal action from several UK sources, including the OFT and the Royal Mail has twisted their arms here. As you say, the "buyers have responded positively" bit is scandalous in itself. The thread on ebay's own forums complainign about this is its largest ever. No doubt they will get this money back off us by putting up their charges yet again.
  9. Brunswick LP "I get the sweetest feeling"
  10. Larry Wu (aka Larry Wedgeworth) regularly goes for about £60 on Ebay. Top 80s.

    Yes, any record any size.

I use a Loricraft Professional Record cleaner. It's paid for itself many times over and is a phenomenal bit of kit. A thousand times better than hand cleaning (and a lot quicker). I tried many different makes before I purchased this, and it knocked the other cleaning machines (including the VPI and Nitty Gritty) for 6. The company is in Oxfordshire and I went to see the machine demoed there before spending any dosh. Saved many an unplayable disk, and makes excellent condition records sound superb. https://www.smartdevicesinc.com/loricraft.html
  13. I've got a few of these too. Like yours, none of the boxes were filled in or ticked (I'm guessing that was the idea).
  14. About £20 or so I believe. I think the 12" fetches a bit more.
  15. About £100
  16. Great record, with his Mrs. on co-lead. I've got a 12" for £15 inc P&P if anyone needs one.
  17. I have "Come be my lady" on a 12" too, which is my favourite off the LP
  18. Well how about Marcell & The Truth "Can't wait", or Teena Marie "Marry me", or SoulPersona "Can't hide", or Will Downing "Something special" or Kylie Auldist "This girl" or Laura Izibor, or Darien, or Calvin Richardson, Klyde Jones, Donnie Williams, Joe, Clark Sisters etc.? Surely a thread entitled "Top 3 sounds of 2009" should contain some of these, or should it be "Top 3 sounds of the 6ts you heard in 2009"? So much great music is still made, contrary to some people's belief.
  19. I'd say £150 for and Ex copy of the vinyl.
  20. Though you'd never guess it from the replies! (Not a Jimmy Abney in site )
  21. I love these "who played it first" threads, they crack me up. At a guess, the 1st person that bought it.
  22. It's true I'm afraid. Only been rolled out in the UK so far, I'm guessing they are testing the legality of it here, before daring to try it in the US. It's caused a massive stir though, as UK Trading Standards are saying it is probably illegal on 2 levels. The reason for doing it, is because the sellers will incorporate the P&P into their starting prices for the item, thus Ebay will make a lot more money, since they take a percentage of the selling price. However, they are probably breaking the law, since "free postage" isn't therefore true, it should in reality be "inclusive of postage". Also, it appears it is also illegal to take a percentage of shipping costs too. TS are thought to be preparing a test case, and the BBC "Watchdog" program will be featuring this in the new series. An unbelievably greedy move from a company that already takes far too much (along with their Paypal bedfellows) from their "customers". For more info, look at the thread on the EBay.UK site. it's by far the longest thread ever (surprised they haven't censored this yet); https://forums.ebay.co.uk/thread.jspa?threadID=1200299216&tstart=0&mod=1260887578354 You may need to sign in to view
  23. One of the most underated records around. Fabulous vocals and great song. Amazed it's still a cheapie.
  24. That's obvious isn't it? He is clearly a con man who is quite happy to take money from the stupid. You only have to look at the number of Michael Jackson items that are worth pennies (if that), that are currently on "buy it now" for hundreds and sometimes thousands of $ to see that he is not alone.
  25. LMAO. I have exactly the same "music centre" in my bedroom which I use as a second deck! PS. I hope you bought a new stylus before playing anything!
