  1. Ha ha Unbelievable, since my post yesterday (with a blatant ad for SHS this friday ) somebody has posted on soul events that they're putting on a Northern soul night a 10 minute stroll down the road..... this friday I don't for one moment think that this will have any effect whatsoever on Solid Hit so it's not that I'm annoyed as such, but even if as I suspect their night will be more club soul (although it's labeled Northern Soul) you have to wonder how much thought has gone into this ? Why would you want to clash with an established club that have had their dates known for months ? Unbelievable
  2. Hmm Had never heard this without boings & on 1st hearing thought that I preferred it but listening again to the familiarity of the boings had me boinging around the kitchen at 1.30am ...............BUT after 2.30 mins it's just so bloody boring .......................who wants to buy mine ? Steve G, Remember you getting the pile through didn't you review them all in Blackbeat ? I had one of the Curtis 7" off of you, pretty sure it was still a top sound at the time.........to think I paid the same price as my Ray Pollard on Shrine
  3. Yeah got a txt earlier on gotta say a fantastic achievement & many congratulations to Martin
  4. Next weekend there are 3 weekenders to choose from, Bamberg Dublin & Newquay. 4 Allniters on Soul Source are there any more? Countless soul nights including Solid Hit Soul in London (apologies for shameless plug ) It amazes me, surely half the venues will be half full/empty ?
  5. Lots of talk about every other or even every 3 months but it may be that it's every month or not at all ? If Ady didn't want the club every month there may be those out there who would..........& probably wouldn't moan about the dance floor cause they only move from the waist up ! Also aren't the times governed by the owners & not Ady ?
  6. Ady as long as its still fun for you & you can carry any losses in the current climate stick with it. One thing is for sure the next 2 or 3 will probably be uncomfortably packed & then apathy will once again raise it's head probably returning things to it's current level until september when the anniversary regulars will turn out for their once a year visit. Hopefully things will pick up on a regular basis soon Piss heads ? I was abused 2 months ago by three girls (I normally have to pay for that kind of service ) because I objected to one of them dripping drink over my head. I'm not a midget ....she was waving it about in the air. I've also had wankers barging into me without a word of apology but then in their world it's probably normal behaviour. My advice don't hang around the bar end of the club & while "most" of them just have a fun few hours it sometimes only takes one personal upset to colour peoples minds. Due to my gammy knee I don't venture onto the floor too often these days so that part isn't a problem for me. New blood is certainly needed (Northern scene in general) but doubt it'll come via the bus stop outside the 100 club. Sorry I can't offer any advice Ady but I'm sure you've more than enough to think about with all the suggestions offered. Would have been down saturday but sleep claimed me as a victim all best Dave
  7. Sue posted that on Solid Hit facebook, have to say I thought it Martins slimline Brother (Ok cue "he can talk comments" ) Seriously, well done Martin & for a great cause as well.......as DKD says Fair Play Feller & all the best change yer socks before Solid Hit tho
  8. No idea Brian, I've a 12incher (steady girls) think it's called I wanna go home or similar but I'm sure somebody will reel off all he did (if of course there's more)
  9. Pete has a good reputation for selling at a reasonable price, not only that he's an honest & helpful dealer. Who the hell has the right to tell him that he's too cheap? At a guess the big dealers as Pete says with a million in stock who keep prices artificially high, though I guess they're business men after a fat profit & there's always someone who will pay over the odds End of the day who decides what a records worth ? The buyer of course. Rosalind Madison overlooked ? Bloody Hell 6/7 years ago (in the South at least) you couldn't move for hearing this record, not a bad tune but just another example of flogging it to death which is why you don't hear it these days, as well of course as previously mentioned tastes have changed. It was only selling for 100/150 when flavour of the month so 50quid now is probably a reasonable price. Correct me if I'm wrong Pete but they turn up all the time don't they ? Best Dave

  13. Whether you still have your faculties or not I couldn't possibly say ..................but yes it certainly was played in the mid 70s, no worse in my opinion than a lot of dreadful pop that has been played on the scene. Hopefully never to be heard again though
  14. Rob the Sammy Campbell 45 on Queen City was "I never thought (I'd find somebody like you)" great track & yes there's been a couple flew through here at what I thought were reasonable prices. £325 & £225 , didn't the one on manship auction go for about 550? Not saying that should be the price but I find people do normally tend to bump up the price after a manship auction, whether they get sold or not is another matter Del Larks Sammy Campbell & Tyrone Ashley all have a similar sound to these lug oles, love 'em all Hope you're well mate Dave
  15. I gave it a few plays at the early Solid Hits Rob, I really like it but it's never really taken off has it ??
  16. Soul Gents bargain Normally goes for double that
  17. Firkin hell it sounds like the gold rush all over again, you listening Stubbsy old timer ?
  18. Hmm I like .......I don't care about British because I'm a young 'un whereas old blokes like Stubbsy can't bear to get shot of 'em Yes i like very much Dave
  19. Like you John when I first started buying soul it was the Motown stuff that was smashing the charts (mainly reissues) & so all British but then a bloke i worked with introduced me to Blues & Soul & Contempo & though still buying british releases I started to buy brand new imports now & again (Slippery slope) One day I walked into a tourist type shop next door to Westminster tube & came upon a box of records. In those days of course, you would find boxes of records everywhere but instead of the usual ex chart stuff I had stumbled upon a box with loads of labels that i had never heard of so instantly dismissed them but also lots of different Ric Tics which I had heard of through Blues & Soul. Only problem was, although I'd heard of the label I hadn't heard of any of the artists but just to see these records that I'd only read about in a mag with the beautiful turquoise label had me hooked. I bought one can't remember what it was though pretty sure it was Al Kent either Ooh pretty lady or You've got to pay the price & being a bit disappointed when i got it home but I guess the label was more important than the tune & although I still of course carried on buying Uk releases they never held the same fascination as the US stuff Dave
