  1. You are correct my friend, my apologies, it was Scotland Road. I knew it was Scotland Road when I typed in Walton Road. Duh, my brain hurts.
  2. Before I had these type of shoe our gang use to wear a Frank Wright made shoe. We use to call them "comoes".They were fantastic for dancing in and dead stylish for the time. (1974). With a pair of Fleming denims (28inch wide) well faded from Walton Road in Liverpool we really thought we were the dogs knacks.
  3. That advertisement takes me back. I had a pair of the 102 and 104 styles. They were the biz. I well remember ordering them from a public telephone box and it kept swallowing my 10ps like they were going out of fashion. Great memories. Thanks for posting.
  4. Black Ship To Hell.......Johnny Adams Band...... Or sumthing like that.
  5. Mary Wilson. CORRRRRRRRRR! All night long an then sum!!!!!!!!

I forgot just how bloody good this is!!!!! Fantastic stuff. Also give an airing to Nita Rossi Something to Give. Another one that Ive not heard for yonks. And I like that one as well. Sheila Anthony Livin in Love. Yet another. Right im off out now. The sun is out an a good day is pending methinks. God dont you just love soul!!!
  7. I rate the Go Team. I think they make really catchy tunes. Ive forgotten the title of one particular tune but they sample Shirley Ellis Soul Time. I think its called Rocket Bottle or Bottle Rocket or sumut like that. Anyway its catchy. Check it out.
  8. You, my friend, make me laugh. You seem to have the same humour as me
  9. There used to be a guy from clitheroe who was pretty useful at wigan circa 77-79, Mick Longhi was his name but we knew him better as Pongo. Dont ask why!!! Also another guy who use to dance the same style. He was a big tall kinda half caste looking chap. I think his nickname may have been Scatcat but i cant be sure.
  10. Just returned from a boot sale. Not a lot of records for sale. BUT in one corner was a few lps one of which was by the Van Dykes. Entitled "No Mans an Island on the Solid Smoke label. Save your love and What will I do are on it. So I snap it up for £1.The label is not the most attractive( it looks too modern) Is it a reissue or what? On my way to work now so thanks for any info in advance.
  11. Top top sound. God Ive not heard this for years. Good shout.
  12. There could be a decent ending for me on this subject. I am back in touch with a guy after about 25 years. He is still in touch but only occasionally with the lady who might still have the disc. Shhhhhh! I suppose she will think it only fair to let me have it back wont she. Got to keep it quiet about the value side of things though. Im not gonna even tell my old buddy about this. And no he doesnt come on here. Thankgoodness. Right Im off to the boozer fer a cry in me beer!
  13. Yeah mine was an issue. You wont believe this but I bought it at the record bar upstairs at Wigan. It was my fave record at the time. God I used to pester Mr Searling to death to play this. He must have thought " heres that dickhead from Blackburn again wanting Joe Matthews" Fair play to the guy cos he always played it.This would be about 1975ish(I think). Only paid a pittance for it. There were 2 copies. I in my total ignorance thought it had been booted. It was only when I asked the question of authenticity of red as opposed to the white demos on this very forum that I found out it had never been booted as a red issue. I "lost" the record somewhere along the line when I dropped of the scene and went "ravin" Think an ex girlfriend might have had it away. Dont Know but believe me, Im pissed off it wernt booted on red . Grrrrrr!!!!!!!
  14. Just wondered. Did anyone come across a big count of the immortal Joe Matthews on Koolkat with " Aint nothing you can do" ?Now that would make me cream my trousers! Great read this thread, great read.
  15. I was never keen on The Four Perfections. I dont know why. I used to avoid it like the plague. In fact when it used to come on I started comin down. It was weird. Now that I am older/wiser /better lookin and a good old egg in general, I love it to bits.
  16. Another place we used to get in free was Darwen Tiffs on a wed night. There was a small room next to the main room and it had a fire escape onto a run down dingy street. One of us would pay to get in and the others were congregrated on the said street waiting for the payee to sneak into the small room and open the fire escape doors. Easy. I well remember all of us in that small room practising our dance routines, spins, kicks etc. This was whhen Levine and Curtis were playing their tunes in the main room We used to mark each other out of ten. And cos we had no money we used to nick our parents/grandparents medicinal tablets for aiding sleep. and mixed with the rare beer we cadged they were a potent combination I can tell ya. Happy and dangerous days!
  17. Been dragging back memories today. Not easy. I got around to thinking that in the 70s we didnt have much cash and we were out nearly every night. I dont know how we managed to get into all the venues, buy gear, buy discs etc. And then I remembered. We used to nick in venues. There were different ways into the Casino, but the one that we used for many weeks was over the roof and through the top cloakroom windows. Looking back it was dangerous as feck but hey needs must. There were about 4 of us doing it regular. Brian Waterhouse from Clitheroe showed me the route in and I tell you it werent easy. You had to go around the side of the Casino and climb up a drainpipe that went all the way up to the roof. It was high and the pipe wasnt the sturdiest but we only weighed 9stone wet through. (Too many chalkies and green and clears) once on the roof a quick skip across it to the windows, urgent rapping on them and someone would always open them and you dropped into the cloakrooms. People were always gobsmacked when you landed on the floor, hands covered in shite from the climb. Anyone else used to sneak in venues?
  18. Our week would be something like this. Mon night. Underground. Blackburn Tues night. Burnley Cricket Club. This was until we got into some fisticuffs with the local Burnley guys. We had the good fortune to trap off with some off the local girls with nice results I might add and this pissed the locals off. Wed night. Tiffs at Darwen. Levine and Curtis djed there for a short spell.(snoopy dean and ladies choice times) Thurs night. Cant remember. Fri. Accrington british legion also Spinning Jenny(Guy Hennigan started there) Sat night. Casino, Casino Casino all the way. Sun night. Blackbeat. Bolton Football Club. Another one that we got into scrapes with locals at. Same reason, local girls just found us irresistable. Typing all this out as fetched such memories flooding back. God I wish I could go back knowing what I know now.
  19. Me neither. What did "blocked" actually mean? When I was starting on the scene the "old timers" used the term for fun and I often wondered what they were on about. I never asked cos I didnt want to look stupid Never heard "yonks" for yonks neither.
  20. [uote name='ged parker' date='Mar 10 08, 07:41 PM' post='718950'] I hope it does take off
  21. Id rescue Bessie Banks......I cant make it without you......Verve. Marvellos....Somethings Burnin.......Loma Doni Burdick and the wonderful Bari Track. This disc is the ultimate NORTHERN inst. Everyone should be made to listen to this when they are starting out on the scene. Jackie Wilson...Ive lost you. another one newcomers should be made to listen to. Eric Mercury..Lonely Girl. (If I had a copy that is) And tons more!!!!!!
  22. Peace of mind. Jim Burgett....Kiss label. 2hrs to go. I kinda like this tune. Anyone know of it?
  23. Tell you what. Didnt Mary Wilson look the business. . Anytime Mary, anytime.
  24. Not my bag man! This is exactly the type of tune that pushed the scene into disarray circa 74/75/76. Its a good job we are all different!
  25. I once went for an afternoon out on the beer in Wigan. It was on a wed early springish. 1992ish cant remember exact year. Anyway weve had few beers and we stumbled up a back cobbled alley/street. At the end of it was a bar. Cant remember the exact name .It was something like "The temple of soul". We entered but it was empty. It was actually opening on that very night, and the girl behind the bar was putting finishing touches to it. Hanging pictures and the like. The were a few Casino pictures and stuff. We cajoled the girl into giving us a bottle of beer cos there were no draught on. But I,ll be honest I was that wasted I cant remember anything else. Just wondered what it ended up like. Did it take off or bomb. Somebody must know on here.
