  2. I like the goldmine system and thats what I think everybody should use. I feel more confident with the goldmine descriptions of what to expect when i'm dealing with US sellers (or Japanese) there are exceptions in the UK not all overgrade. I also know if I were to list a record as vg its less likely to sell even though it may play well and look pretty good.
  3. the UK soul scene and the USA expectations of a vg record are two entirely different things. I would be very nervous buying vg from a UK seller but far mroe confident if I were buying from the US. the grading systems just don't get close. and what is ex+ there is no such grade its just made up ??
  4. i've got a box of stuff I baught when I started collecting I might stick up on ebay as a collection.
  5. I've seen that as well one guy (who can remain nameless) on his own when the lights had come on and the music had finished. It was funny.
  6. that is just about as bad as it can get. the soul scene has become a parody of itself for many and the rare soul scene needs to completely detatch itself from the circus. I like having a laught and a few beers but this is not what I would want to travel and pay money for.
  7. When I pull out records to do sales lists they somnetimes don't get tidied up properly so are left all over the house. I found a small pile hidden on a bookshelf just the other day along with one in the kitchen cupboard with the plates. I relisted 2 of these last time and managed to sell them so that was a nice result. the other way round to this situation would be worse selling and record then a year later thinking ou still have it.
  8. i'm not saying it is but another possibility might be shill bidding to try and snare somebody into placing a high bid.
  9. "who's gonna help me now" on neptune is a brilliant deep soul record. knocked me sideways the first time I heard it.
  10. bump again. final final one this time
  11. is that "el monkey" or something similar for the title.

  13. I think the recorded insurance or special delivery insurance is an issue for royal mail not the post office. and to the original question yes it believe this is true if you under insure you get nothing better to declare the value as the max the servcie you choose provides.
  14. one final try for these 2 bathes. nothing gone from the second lot yet and somje real cracking stuff IMO. if anybody needs mp3s from 2nd bacth I can provide them as all recorded. None of first lot is recorded. dylan
  15. thats not entirely true there are deoms with both sides but not that copy.
  16. thats a demo it needs to be an issue and would be a lot mroe expensive than 50 quid sadly.
  17. good luck finding those For years I searched for thomas bailey on stone and did see one or two on ebay but I have never owned the record. I don't realy spend that kind of cash now so may never get to own it. I may have a moment of weakness if one comes along at a sensible price for old times sake. Willie Johnson Future Stars issue was my other top want I never managed to own. I nearly got one once...... I would say after 15 or so years of listening to soul music these would figure in my all time top 10 of best rare soul records ever recorded.

  21. first hour was all I managed decided to switch off before russ annoyed me. standouts were percy sledge "out left field" ben e king "what is soul" 2 fantastic soul records. The ben e king could slip into a northern spot of uptempo rarities quite nicely.

I think 360 is far mroe realistic today and 800 is too high. I would even say 250 is about right.
  23. Dylan posted a post in a topic in All About the SOUL
i'd say its still very worthy of being called rare if there are 30 copies. Thats f**k all in the scheme of things.
  24. Dylan posted a post in a topic in All About the SOUL
with a 20 or 50 copies find of a rare record there are two ways to go. drip them out through a network of dealers and try and get top $ for all copies and create a sense of still being very rare. This has been tried lots of times and if you pay way over it can leave bad feeling. do what happened with darling dears say openily in public you have 50 copies and sell them for $300 each in about 1 hour. I think the fairest way is the second and the fact all those sold immediaitely shows the demand is still there when the truth facts are known. with the jackie day it would be complete guess work by me just how many copies were found. I would guess that some who say it was 20, 30, 50 copies don't actually know for sure they just make these numbers up.

i've seen quite a lot of jackie days in recenmt years ? its still no doubt quite rare but its by no means an impossible record to find. Having said that it will still sell for a lot of money when it comes up.
