  1. ....And if only it had been listed in the events calendar I'd have been there to hear them - Kev

I'd presumed wrong then. Thanks for that.

Pete, I don't like to show my hand either. If a record has no bids and you set a snipe for it, does it remain at "no bids" (presuming someone else hasn't leapt in) until the closing seconds when your snipe takes effect? Or does it show you as a bidder with say a minimum bid and snipe ups it for you at the very end? I'd sort of presumed that setting a snipe would show to all and sundry that there is interest in the item. - Kev

Nope - all that new fangled pedal mularkey takes all the fun out of a trip to the bakery. - Kev
  5. BBC4's excellent The Joy Of The Single, was a programme full of quotable material. From it, here's a couple of vinyl related quotes which I hope I've scribbled down and attributed correctly: " I even like the scratchiness of a 45 when you put it on..... it's like foreplay....you know something good is gonna come ! " - Suzi Quatro " CD's ....they're a little bit insipid ....they're all shine and no substance " - Norman Cooke followed by a demonstration of how to handle vinyl, which included ... " This bit is sacred...the grooves are sacred " - Norman Cooke - Kev

Ah yes, but that's bidding early Bob. I bid in the final seconds anyway, and if I really want something I'll stay up until any hour to bid. A couple of years back I won a nice item after managing to sneak away from the family during Christmas dinner. IMO you can't beat the instant elation of winning by bidding in the closing seconds, followed immediately by that sinking feeling 'cos you've realised you are broke for the foreseeable future. If I can't be on-line to bid - then I don't want it enough. If I resorted to sniping I reckon I could win far too many tempting pieces of vinyl that i didn't REALLY need and I'd be broke forever! Each to their own. - Kev

Sniping is like not watching the race at all but just seeing the result in the morning news. - Kev
  8. It's there - alongside Arin Demain and Jock Mitchell - Kev

How very considerate of them to put Gift Aid stickers on the labels! - Kev
  10. It was pretty damned good Carl ! A packed house - not what I would call a "scene" crowd as it was on the back of his UK release of "Sweetest Feeling" - but I was a happy bunny! - Kev
  11. Jackie Wilson.....at the Tudor House, Bearsted nr Maidstone, in '72 or '73. - Kev.
  12. My money is on " The World's Best Top 500" - Kev
  13. Very unlikely...'cos the missus has already told me that I'm wrong.
  14. Keni Lewis - Not The Marrying Kind. ?? - Kev
  15. Pete, clicking on bogus links like that can lead to all sorts of problems. It might be wise to remove it from the thread. - Kev.

3 words. Last word sounds like "bend" - Kev
  17. Surely this exactly the reason that there are too many nights on - a current and frequent gripe on here. Any promoter/dj can get a night going, playing top tunes at minimal cost. IMO they've invested money straight into their own pockets rather than into the scene. - Kev
  18. Just a thought.... Could those who are gonna play other than original vinyl please post up something along the lines of "This an MP3 (or CD) event" and add it to their flyers too. It could save me a fortune in petrol and Blood Pressure pills. Thankyou. - Kev
  19. No mate, it's your incorrect clothing description that makes me think you're new to the scene. You don't work for Ipso Facto do ya? - Kev
  20. I used to pretend that I went to the Wheel, when Jnr Walker was on. (If questioned i couldn't remember much 'cos I had blockers block). - but that was when I was16 or 17 and eager to impress. I never did make it there and would have liked to attend the last 'niter - but I figured it should be left to those that held it dear. Same with the Torch re-unions - I declined tickets for the first one 'cos I reckoned I couldn't "re-unite" as I never went to Hose St. Never went to Wigan either, and didn't fancy it at the time - though I feel now as though I missed out on something special. I've got my own memories of little places, forgoten by some and unheard of by many, that were special to me and I don't feel the need to fabricate. The only people this seems to mildly disappoint are the younger crowd in Europe, who seem a bit surprised that an old fart like me wouldn't have attended the legendary venues that they seem to know so much about. But it really doesn't matter. Cut the crap if you're a bullsh!tter - it's unneccessary and you're fooling no-one but yourself! That said, if a tune was a Torch or Wheel classic, there's sod all wrong with saying so ( mmm....even if it was played in a barn in Northants/Beds first). - Kev
  21. Buy a pair of trashed decks at a car boot and Bluetack coins to the cartridges for a bit of extra weight. Then ensure that your dad sees what your about to start playing his vinyl on. He should either lock his vinyl away or sort you out with some decent decks. - Kev
  22. Thanks guys. Was hoping to find a chain that stocked it to negate yet another "To large for letterbox" from the postie. How do Mark. Must catch up at Solid Hit sometime soon. - Kev.
  23. That's great news Paul. Nice to hear that some are using Ambersil and that it worked for you as I've suggested this a few times over the years on here. It's what the top-notch CSI guys use for cleaning up their equipment so as not to contaminate further crime scenes. Lots of similar products were tested and Ambersil came out a clear winner. All of my vinyl gets the Ambersil treatment before It's first spin. I used to get mine from work and I'm running low - does anyone know where you can pick this stuff up retail? - Kev
  24. Yep, I bought it years ago and remember the faulty track listing. Luckily I didn't buy it just for the Johnny Rodgers.
  25. Here's a couple more....... Wendell Watts....Grooviest Thing This Side Of Heaven , on Jiminie (especially the intro), Lee Timan & The Secrets....She's The One I Love, on WHIT. Bloody awful recording, which is a pity 'cos I love the tune. Got to agree with the Jimmy Conwell...Too Much , on Gemini. - I heard a sound clip of this off an ebay sale that sounded crystal clear, but it wasn't on Gemini. Can't remember the label but does anyone know if it came out legitimately on anything other than Gemini? - Kev.
