Bye Bye Cheapo Cheapo
Stumbled across this place by accident in about '72 and bumped into a very knowlegeable guy by the name of Dave Godin. Still got the vinyl he pulled out and told me I should buy: Cat Walk......Gerry & Paul; Bok to Bach......Fathers Angels; Get On Up.....Esquires. What impressed me though was the bloody great "Wants List" he was carrying around It was a handwritten book.

Any Northern Soul Night In London May 15th/16th 2009
It's not. Blue Skies is no more - for the time being anyway. Solid Hit Soul is up and running again but I'm pretty certain it's on friday 8th May. - Kev.

Who Killed Teddy Bear
Well as far as I can make out it was written by the Four Seasons' Bob Gaudio & Al Kasha. Some of the soundtrack was those two with the assistance of Charles Callelo. Singer could be Al Kasha, previously known as Billy Casher of the 4-Evers, butI can't find a solo voice-clip to compare. My best guess would be that it's sung by Sal Mineo himself, as the vocals are a bit weak (like much of his stuff). - Kev.

The Third Degree - Mercy
I played it out at "Stolen Hours" in Ramsgate on Saturday. It was an early doors slot so I thought I'd test the water with it. No rush to the floor but a bit of interest shown at the decks. -Kev

Sea Shells On Ebay
No it's not just you. All that time setting searches. All those hopes that no one else has spotted it.

Is This Record Played?
It's only redeeming feaure is that it reminds me of someone who used to let me go knocking at her backdoor. - Kev.

45rpm - Why This Speed?
I'm pretty sure it's 45rpm 'cos if it's any faster it sounds like Pinky & Perky, and any slower it sounds like a drunk.

Anyone Think This Doesn't Look Right?
It looks like the script at the top of the label is misaligned with that at the bottom too, but I think it's just down to camera angle. Would have liked to see a straight on shot. Maybe I'm just gullible!

Anyone Think This Doesn't Look Right?
Be a bit of a silly thing to do, and pointless as it clearly states "demonstration sample not for sale" on the label. Genuine I reckon. -Kev.

Oh Good Grief
Thanks Mark - hadn't got my specs on! I didn't realise that the £ was doing so badly against the Euro! (or the $). Wouldn't pay 25p at a car boot for that shite.

Oh Good Grief
Am I missing something here?

The Presentations
I'd like to have a listen of that too. Anything recorded as The UP-SET Larry?

Mom's Apple Pie
Hi Larry, enjoyed your thread on the PRESENTATIONS - CALL ON ME. I've had a cursory look at these other sites and I've got to say I don't hear much that will be of interest to the average visitor to this site. Didn't anyone tell you we're stuck in a timewarp Nice to know that after all these years you are still involved in the music business though, and I wish you every success with your current ventures. - Kevin.

The Presentations
Here's a bit of info on "Call On Me" from Larry. which I'm sure he won't mind me sharing on here: "a little tib bit about Call On Me! The singers could not really hit the HIGHS, so my lead singer Joey Guarino dubbed them in,.....ha ha" and, "Also our voices were dubbed in. here is the breakdown. of the UP=SET (Music Combination) my band: Joey Guarino~Lead vocals Larry Patterson~Sax~vocals Denny Gill~Trumpet~vocals Billy Sparks~Bass~vocals Tom Somich~Drums~vocals Frank Donahue~Guitar~vocals Then there were the Presentations 4 black guys If I remember and a few strings were added."

The Presentations
Be really nice if this was moved. Larry has PM'd me some anecdotes which I've asked him to add to the thread for the benefit of all. - Kev.

The Presentations
Maybe the Mods could move this thread to "All about the soul"? - or somewhere that might not be missed by others. - Kev.

Three Wants
Dave you're such a Boer, you know the R.E's were there mate! I'm doin' fine thanks, but not as tanned and relaxed as yerself. That Skyliners is a nice tune - not long picked up a copy myself! Sorry for hijacking your thread Emel, but I'm sure you'll forgive me as your vinyl will be on it's way soon.

Grapevine Records
I had a mate who was working on sign fixing, next door to a record shop in Windsor a couple of years ago. He walks in with "Got any Northern Soul mate?" and is directed out back. Ends up walking out with the whole Grapevine collection, minus 2 I think, for a total of £7 . I drive there a couple of weeks later and it's closed down.

Three Wants
With age, comes experience. Warren, wait 'till you see the one of Pam! Good to see young Emel getting the vinyl bug eh?

Spencer Wiggins
Following a previous thread on here I've been playing my SoulSeries copy out. Don't recall what the previous thread said exactly, though I know the concensus of opinion was that it was OK to play. - Kev.

Soulful Squaddies
That's great Harry, and I'm gonna try and get up to support it and I hope a few from this site, and certainly this thread, support it too. It's maybe unfortunate that the Soul For Heroes (South) event is running so close to this one. With a venue in Chatham so near to the 80 acre Chatham Historic Dockyard, which is hosting events for Armed Forces Day, I saw it as too good an opportunity to miss. Gonna get down there and rattle a few charity buckets............or maybe more - watch this space . - Kev
