  1. Nah, you're being unduly harsh. I'm the first to criticise acrobatics over dancing, but there's obviously plenty of footwork going on here. And in time to the music. Good dancers I reckon . Now, if you want to talk about the editing of the clip, which has undoubtedly concentrated on the acrobatic element within the dance, that's another matter. -Kev.
  2. Yeah right, my shoes often burst into flames when I'm on top form too Seriously though - wasn't there a thread on here a few weeks back where they were looking to audition Northern Soul dancers for a new promotional music video? I'm pretty sure there was mention about the fire thing, so guess this must be it. That said, I reckon someone on here must know who the dancers are. -Kev
  3. Great track! Were you watching it too then Bearsy? Personally I thought it was a bit pricey, but only considering the condition of the vinyl. -Kev.
  4. Read the item description now. It also clearly states " Please note....due to Christmas, shipping may be delayed" Awful lot of fuss over an overplayed cheapie. -Kev.
  5. I don't know anyone involved on this thread - and I get really peed off when vinyl doesn't arrive on time. BUT Surely this is a genuine postal balls up, and it seems you are being kept informed by the seller. If you agreed to the seller overcharging you for standard postage, and declined insurance, why do you assume that because the item was sent recorded at EXTRA cost to the seller, you are insured. I think you should show a bit of restraint and be prepared to wait for the item to be declared lost. Don't see why you should only get a partial refund though unless you've paid more than the seller will get refunded by the post office. If that is the case - tough IMO, you should have read her postal policy, and got insured. This all seems to have got a bit out of hand I reckon.
  6. Just like to point out that this bloke can have nothing to do with the scene down here. There was a guy in Rochester who started a do recently, playing Motown, R&B, and some weirdly named African shite. Could be the same bloke. Anyways, his night attracted 0 punters . Apparently the venue gave him the Order of The Boot. - Kev In Kent
  7. I have to agree with this sentiment, and it's the first time I've heard it expressed on here. I like to play originals myself though, apart from one or two that I've had since the late 60's - they're part of my heritage and I could easily replace 'em with originals, but won't. I know some that I don't consider DJ's or collectors, and they still get away with it. -Kev
  8. Called him for you mate. His copy has been SOLD. Good luck. Anyone else got a copy for sale?
  9. Found those details and PMing ya. -Kev
  10. I think Clarkie had a copy listed before Christmas. Was asking for bids on it. I don't know if he still has it, and can't find his contact details. Anyone? -Kev
  11. So who was first? I got on in the first minute but Hitsville Chalky was already there.
  12. Good to be back !!! I was just gonna have an early night - never mind. -Kev
  13. Supply & Demand. Surely the price you are willing to pay for a piece of vinyl is a huge factor in dictating it's value. Choose whichever one you would prefer to listen to. -Kev.
  14. For a cold, I recommend going to bed with a hot toddy. It'll do you more good than being on here -Kev.
  15. Well it looks like Chalky read you correctly and I got it wrong as usual! Thanks for starting off what has turned out to be a very nice little thread, and in the main a very friendly one too. I'm still disgruntled about the Tams being reissued though , but it was a long time ago - a whole new generation has found the scene and I might self indulge and play it out. Hey, even I can dance to it! -Kev.
  16. Surely there was no "traditional Northern Soul" in the early days. It's all just evolution of the scene as it developed. Many of the big venues, and a lot of small local ones, were ground breaking in their own time. At least, that's the way I remember it from the mid to late sixties onwards. One thing that really p's me off is DJ's playing what they refer to as Youth Club tracks. Bollocks! When they were originally played they were the business and bloody hard to find. I can only presume that said DJ's were still in short trousers at the time. Anyways, 2 that spring to mind for me are Michael - C.O.D.'s, and Hey Girl Don't Bother Me - Tams. Never hear the Tams HGDBM now, but I remember paying a weeks wages for it and was proud to own 1 of only 3 copies that I knew of (in my little world). The other 2 were at the Cally in Dunstable, and The George, Wilby, Northants. Walking into The George with that playing and everyone clapping along was the nearest thing to heaven for me. -Kev
  17. Well now that a Reggae/Ska section of the forum has appeared, I'm gonna go with: "Get up in the morning, baked beans for breakfast" -Desmond Decker
  18. Thought I'd save myself some extra work on the keys- No. In fact you are wrong. Sorry I haven't read the book. -Kev
  19. Mine looked too good to be true - and was graded as VG++ Like I say, the sound was awful towards the end. Got it of evilbay from "shermy67" of Shermy's Record Shack, San Leandro, California. - was very cheap and wouldn't have thought a seller with a large turnover would benefit from booting it for little gain. Maybe there's a pressing fault with just a few copies?
  20. Yes Barry, and I can't find my Nolan Porter!
  21. It's not just me then.
  22. I thought "playing it safe" was keeping feet on floors. There's better and more imaginative ways of keeping the floor going, but how many times have you heard a DJ revert to the same old same old, when he hasn't got a feel for the floor? Sticking Nolan Porter on halfway through an R'n'B set, in order to get some on the floor, is a distinct sign of failure IMO.
  23. I got one of these from the USA a couple of months back, but with black lettering, and I was assured it wasn't a boot. BUT....about three quarters of the way through the sound becomes very poor and sort of all merges together in an indistint sort of way. Had to find another copy to play out.
  24. Bloody hell! I thought I was the nearest thing to a Chelsea Pensioner on this thread . I think 16/5th were at Hohne in '74 when I was there, but I was also Armagh way in '72 so might be getting my wires crossed. I hope someone comes up with some info for ya on your old mate Brian. -Kev.
  25. I've witnessed some pretty nasty things, or more usually the aftermath of them, but I don't go home and beat my wife up. Please don't presume that I share the "cocooned cushy values" you speak of. I have my own set of values. Anyway, I've expressed my views and it's about that time of night when I post things I end up regretting, so I'll call it a day on this one. -Kev
