The Cosimo Code
Yes, thanks! Just found Wayback Machine myself! Will it be there forever I wonder!?

The Cosimo Code
Yes, I was looking at that earlier today. He mentions Peter Hoogers and Annabella. Earlier today I contacted Peter via 45cat message (awaiting reply). I have recently also tried contacting Annabella on another topic but fear she may no longer be around as she went very quiet on 45cat about three years ago (she ran the wonderful "Singing Bones" blog until 2011, sadly missed).

The Cosimo Code
Yes, "The Soul Detective" was Red Kelly, who was the host of the Cosimo Code site. He passed away in July 2022 (coincidentally only a few weeks before his passing I had been in an email conversation with him after not being in contact for a few years).

The Cosimo Code
The Cosimo Code website is no more or is, at least, no longer accessible. I guess the hosting bill has not been paid. Red Kelly (RIP) was doing the hosting but he of course passed away (a couple of years ago now!). Anybody any idea how to resurrect the site? It would be a terrible shame for all that research to be lost. John Ridley, John Broven, Davie Gordon, Peter Gibbons, anyone?

Eddie Parker....Love you Baby
Yes, understand that could be a possibility.

Eddie Parker....Love you Baby
This is a Summit Distributors list (Chicago area) dated 7th February 1969. It has Love You Baby listed in the "Up And Coming" section. This would tend to confirm a release date of Jan/Feb 1969.

The best soul album
A few that haven't been mentioned as far as I can tell: Rhetta Hughes - Relight My Fire Lovelites - With Love From... Tower Of Power - Back To Oakland

Songs That Are A Woman's Name
Tony Clarke - Joyce Elaine Once his wife, who, in 1971, apparently shot him dead as an act of self defence. He was already tortured by her when he recorded this by the sound of it).

Cappy's Record Store Detroit
I'm sure people on here will know but can't find any mention of it - Bob Mays passed away December 2020. A very brief obituary, with a few heartfelt comments can be found here: https://www.legacy.com/us/obituaries/freep/name/robert-mays-obituary?id=7340098

Can Anyone ID This Group?
Re Heaven And Earth. Comparing Discogs pic and back cover of their first album their heights seem about right, and change facial hair a bit and I could start to convince myself.
-
Can Anyone ID This Group?
Agree, probably 1974. They are singing covers so probably a newly formed group. Heaven And Earth? First line up. They formed in 1974 and had first single released in 1975.

HELP ME IDENTIFY THIS CRAZY REGGAE LeROY SMART SINGLE!
Anything at all in the dead wax? It is this track presumably? released in 1978 on a UK Burning Sounds LP. track would have been laid down in Jamaica originally I guess. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=-3Ysl71yphU Another version appears on a Mixing Lab 7" , but this wouldn't have been released until the 90s, judging by the label design on other Mixing Lab singles: https://www.discogs.com/release/4977063-Leroy-Smart-Its-Impossible Many reggae singles did get US presses/ releases on labels such as Germain. So this could have been a white label from one of them?

Prophecy - Rain In My Life - All Platinum
There are two releases for this (both released around the same time I think). One has -RE-2 suffix in the matrix, one doesn't. Do you know if they are both the same in playback (ie. tinny)? B side is a great slowie too (and a better balance sonically I reckon).

Selling eBay, Etsy or Vinted - reporting to HMRC
It's one big grey area. OK, I'm selling some records from my collection, some of which I've had for years ("in the attic" so to speak, so not "trading"), and some of which I have bought for peanuts in local chazza or booter with a view for flipping for profit (effectively "trading"). How on earth is "the man" going to be able to tell the difference. I think article said ebay et al will not have to pass on details if income is under 2000eur. And I can't believe the Government will have the resources to chase people selling close to that. They will go after the more obvious traders (repeat selling the same items regularly) with fairly significant income. He says, hopefully.

Who was John Hillyard?
Thanks for pulling this together jimmyjrg, and to everyone one here for chipping in. A great read.

Phil Lynskey and "Soul House" record lists
A couple more selections from old Soul House lists. This time from list#15 January '78. I read somewhere (probably on here) that Phil had his head turned by Punk. The front page of this list would appear to back that up. Funny, I thought it was just a joke at the time, Phil copying the numerous Punk fanzines that had popped up around then. This was the last list of his I got. Not sure whether this was because it was the last one he produced or that I just stopped getting them (I had had my head turned by Punk, and along with Reggae and Disco 12s there wasn't really any money left to spend on blind buys from Soul lists). First selection were mostly 40p on the list. Not really any Northern on this mix, but plenty of top quality Soul and a bit of Funk. Second selection features records that were 75p - £2 on the list. Some Northern on this one.

Song help?
Actually an 'Ogs median is misleading in this case as only two recorded copies sold £1100 last year and £145 for a VG/VG+ copy 10 years ago which I guess was something of a bargain.

Song help?
Funnily enough I was looking through an old Black Grape list from 1980 the other day and Johnny McCall I Need You was one you could pick up for just over a £1 back then. Here were a few from the list that have turned into "big hitters":

News: The Most Sought After Rare Northern
Interesting. As I said Rudzy was identifying reissues and pressings on some releases at least on his lists. So if they were bootlegs ,either: he didn't know they were; It was generally accepted on the scene they must be; He was being naughty. I was never really into the Northern scene, just general Soul/funk, but I have become increasingly fascinated by it over the years. Bootleg v original must have been a minefield back then unless you were deeply into the scene.

News: The Most Sought After Rare Northern
The image below is from an August 1976 list from Paul Rudzitis. Eddie Rey for £6 , so about £50 in today's money. The George Payton is not the one on the most sought after list but is today £500 median on the 'Ogs. Cliff Goldsmith Orch is seriously obscure it seems and was £10 on Rudzy's previous list. Rudzy would tend to identify pressings and reissues on his lists but Eula Cooper for 50p had to be a reissue didn't it? (It was seen on a few of his lists at the time. Also he had Eddie Foster listed for £2 but as a Demo so that must have been a reissue? A couple more on the same 1976 list that I'm pretty sure were originals, and almost certainly M- as just dead stock at the time: Chico Lamarr - £1 William Cummings - £1.50 Would people like Rudzy have got these from John Anderson at the time do you think?
