That MPG album is magic! Have played both bitter pill and tmtl off it out in the past. Loads of things tucked away on Motown LPs, love em.

Up Front?
Tbh Phil I gave that level of expectation up several years ago mate, never gonna happen and you just set yourself up to be disappointed and disillusioned. That said, you do still hear the odd thing which fires you up as of old and like nothing else but, I think most of us would agree, they're fewer and farther between, inevitably. What's the point then? For me, hearing what I think are quality soul records - whatever anyone wants to call em on top of that - from around 1965-70, well put together, consistently and a bit creatively, over the course of a night, by people who know what they're doing, on a decent sound system, preferably not in an absolute sh*thole. Still get a buzz out of that I've not found anywhere or doing anything else.

Up Front?
Mine hasn't. Three of em are still total and utter bobbins and t'other is ordinary at best and, as you suggest, none of those would constitute pushing anything anywhere new and exciting would they (apart from me over the edge) I feel a a bit for the person who posted them as examples to be honest as that was a genuine attempt to be helpful I think but the choices and any attempt to 'categorise' them was always gonna get panned wasn't it. Realistically, in 2015 how many real quality, new [60s / crossover] things are left out there? Fair play to anyone who is at least actively looking for em though! I tend to agree with those folk who've already suggested that 'upfront', like all the other labels and sub genres, is pretty meaningless and unhelpful. I just look at who's dj-Ing and decide from there really.

Is Jack Montgomery The Most Auctioned Record?
Absolutely fantastic record! Used to be about £15 really well spent. Don't Turn your back is absolute magic but one of the many great, downbeat things there doesn't appear to be a real place on 'the scene' for nowadays it seems; its poorer for that too IMHO.

Grumpy - April event at Runcorn now Cancelled
Evenining All Following a phone call this afternoon from the owner, we have been informed that there is an issue with the club's license which will take four weeks to resolve. What that means is that we have had to cancel the Grumpy session on Saturday 4th April. Having considered last minute options and possible alternatives, gutted though we are, we've decided that this is the most sensible course of action. Rest assured though, this is just a temporary and unforseen blip; we'll be back with a proper bang in July for the anniversary! We'll obviously contact as many folk as possible directly but would be really grateful if anyone who knows someone who was intent on coming along in April could let them know the score via email, text, Facebook or whatever. (We usually have a lot of folk who travel a fair distance and would hate anyone to have a wasted journey or to incur any unnecessary expense). So, gutted of course but right back and banging in July as promised Cheers

The Kinettes - Sweating - Alvin Cash - 45 Out Spring
Ey up mate It's a truly magnificent record ain't it. Suppose it just hacks me that, like a couple of other things, it's lost a bit of its magic for me somehow

The Kinettes - Sweating - Alvin Cash - 45 Out Spring
like the Magnetics - count the days, another one soon to be filed under: "Jeez, we used to drive for x hours just to hear this now you can hear it buying chicken fillets in Asda. NEVER thought I'd say this but if I never hear it again it'll be too feckin soon." For or that to happen to 'Kinettes' would be just plain wrong

Jimmy Wensiora
When I think about it, give or take, what JW had and played at that time, plus much of the stuff he moved on and which got played subsequently, just about sums up my collecting aspirations over a thirty odd year period. So, for the fact that I've never had, haven't got and will never have any bloody money, thanks a bundle Jimmy lol.

Er Youth..... Rob Marriott ... Says Get This On Youth
When people ask what's the difference between 'northern soul' and "that rare shit you're into" they obviously miss the point but I'm always at a bit of a loss as to how to explain it anyway, and usually opt for "it just sounds different somehow." Rob's taste and willingness to always push on encapsulates it perfectly; always proper 'all nighter' tackle if you know what i mean. Legend

Eddie Parker "i'm Gone" Jm Auction
You know that magic 'whoosh' you feel from a crowd only very rarely during a night? When you do you know it's a special record and that what's just happened is that the first few bars have just kicked anyone who 'gets it' right in their soul knackers (or girl bits). Eddie does it every time

Stanky - Billy Davis Talk (Split From Orig Thread)
Yeah, atmosphere mate; that's the badger innit. That subtle blend of oxygen, nitrogen, carbon dioxide (and a hint of argon); balance, as you say. Merry Chrimbo to you n yours Len x
