  1. You're not wrong either though Len. If someone can tell me where I can access an all-nighter's worth of quality SOUL records that are 'cutting edge' - inc no re-activations - I'll walk to it from Preston.
  2. One of the best of all-time. Don't get the British thing at all, never have. The winner will have to pop the middle bit out as a matter of principle
  3. You can unpick the 'arguments' fairly easily of course but you can't deny the proper, f*ck off passion and love for it. And despite the ravages of time / how much of a tragic, mid-life jolly up / cash cow / easy f*ucking ride it seems to have become on so many levels, it does still really matter, even now. Cheers Steve, enjoyed em.
  4. It's a good record isn't it; I'd want it to be more than that though if I was parting with that kinda dosh Steve, sell Eddie Parker to Andy Dennison; it'd put you both out of your misery lol
  5. Hit Sound and Cash In Today. Pat Brady's auction, 23 days to go.

We've been doing Grumpy Soul for just over three years now. Most we've ever 'made', just the once mind, was enough to buy two new styli. We have our own sound system which we've bought over time and the djs all get paid the same. The residents travel from Peterborough and the midlands and we've had a few Scottish lads guesting too; trust me, it's for the love of it all round and we REALLY appreciate the effort everyone makes. Happy to spend our time and money putting it on if it's what people want. We're dead passionate about it, obviously, and Christ knows you've gotta be cos it's bloody hard work. Finances aside, its even hard to relax and enjoy the night itself as you're constantly fretting about whether those who've paid to get in are ... Rooms right, sounds right, no knobheads, dance floors busy, bars not backing-up, bog roll in plentiful supply, what's Fortnum up to ... Actually, on reflection, bloody bumps need feeling Then you hear Walter and the Admerations and it's rockin; jobs a good un atb Phil

  10. Always been a bit of a guilty secret, I love em Primarily 60s I'm interested in and they need to be fairly clean i.e. not trashed visually or play-wise. Not just the 'northern' things either, collect 'hits' too so anything you've got and might let go give me a shout via PM. Here's some I definitely want: martha / Vands - nowhere to run, heartless, one way out, show me the way, jimmy mack, third finger Miracles- if you can want, going to a go go, tracks of my tears, second that emotion Isleys - rumour, why when love, painted smile Velvelettes - needle, saying something, lonely girl marvin - inner city, going on Kim W- still loving you Contours - hit and run Jimmy R - passed this way before Edwin - my weakness Stevie - asking for trouble Cheers Phil
  11. Worth a go. PM me if you're in possession and might be interested in moving it on Cheers Phil
  12. A genuinely nice fella. Really, really sad.
  13. Specials at Barrow Civic Hall 1979. I was 12 and told fibs to go to what was my first concert. Unbelievable! Weller at the Zap in Brighton, just prior to his first solo album release, was a special night too. Seen most of the soul artists already mentioned on the thread and, good though most definitely were, and some were outstanding, none gripped me in quite the same way as those two did on those particular nights. Happy days!
  14. I'd rather people who know me yet have no real idea what I've been so obsessed with or why for 30 years plus got an inkling based on a taste of unbelievable, uplifting music experienced on absolutely buzzing dance floors than three fat old blokes shuffling about in fancy dress on tea time telly. Whatever else it does or doesn't do, thank you so f*cking much for that
  15. Tried to pm you last night mate, won't work for some reason??? Just yours it seems Can you pm me Cheers Phil
  16. I didn't get that far in Dave and am quite relieved now I know old Ric was laying in wait; thanks for the heads-up mate. Really enjoyed what I did hear though; nice work again Chalks (I'd 'follow' you or whatever they call it but it sounds a bit stalky and sinister) Regards A. Luddite
  17. 'Gerald Sims & the Breeze - goodbye sadness' c/u before Charmaines
  18. Brilliant! Where do you get plums that big? Call me elitist but if I couldn't spell 'too' I'd sit really f*cking still when there were pens about.
  19. Doesn't fit your criteria bud
  20. Mine looks like its been jet washed

Bought a decent wooden box at Diskery when I lived in Brum mid-late 80s. Never found any vinyl I really wanted in there or Reddingtons to be honest. There was a place over the roundabout up past the town hall too I seem to recall. Mostly LPs n pressings from memory but I liked it in there as a callow youth. Happy days, miserable bleeders.
  22. BF on BR harder in my experience. Had and seen a few on Phillips although we can all say that about several records I suspect; some just seem to gravitate to a person / area and that can skew perceptions re rarity and availability sometimes. Dropped a bag full of b*llocks on that score over the years lol
