  1. Originally it was all I used to do and was what it was all about. These days I have no knees and an hour or two wobbling about equates to several days of 'toothache' in each leg. Really hacks me off, not the same without it

  4. Bugger, was just gonna pm the mighty Flynn offering all manner of swapsies lol
  5. If it wasn't rare ... what? I love that line. What does it mean? You'd have to rate it and love it musically first and foremost, obviously, and I do, which I think is what you're getting at Marc. However, isn't rarity / exclusivity or however you wanna couch it part of the mystique / attraction and integral to collecting rare records on what is essentially a rare soul scene? I can think of plenty of rare records that I think are ordinary at best but I don't think people own and/or play them simply because they're rare. Do they? (Some might I suppose; they've got 'issues' and too much bloody money then). If it wasn't rare I'd still like it, still have one and still play it out. All a matter of taste, obviously, and thank goodness for that. Anyway, I'll stretch to $5 if you've another knocking around Adey.
  6. All about opinions obviously. of the three I'd choose EE all day long, 'distressed' or not Phil lol. EPs a beltin record; never had it, wouldn't pay much for it myself. Imp Cs great record but not in the same league as t'other two IMHO. (Between us, Ian C and I must've had at least a dozen over the years, rarer issues (weird 'rippling') and demos). Nice tackle at RAFA btw Bri! Atb Phil
  7. Rarer than EP for sure but not impossible. Sold mine to Carl Willingham two maybe three years ago and regretted it ever since. Fantastic record!
  8. Two still wanted: hipper (Modo) and bnf (Lujuna) PM me cheers Phil

  11. In response to the kindly "big thanks to Phil, all the way from Preston" came the voice from the darkness at the back of the room: "f*ck off back to Preston" followed very shortly by, as my 'successor' hit em with his Vibrations boot "thank fook for that." (Professionals, Rose Batiste, Joe Matthews, Miracles, Isleys etc hadn't gone at all well during my hour to be honest) I can't be sure to this day but I bet the bloke shouting was the cock who'd been up on stage at one point and got as far as "I'm not being funny mate but ...". Think he also said "play some stompers" at one point but I was talking as opposed to listening if I'm honest, whilst going purple and trying really hard not to crush his windpipe. A good night was had by all and I f*ckef off back to Preston lol So ... Please don't sing it to me or play a clip off your phone I've no idea what you like if you don't tell me I have 200 records with me in a smallish box (as opposed to a. 15000 or b. a tardis) I don't know wtf a stomper is If you don't know what you know cut me a bit o slack I don't tend to take things out to play that I've had since I was ten (other than marbles) Trust me, however sh*t you think it is I think it's sh*tter so you're in good company You'll just hate this hour, try all night for size Fantastic way to spend your free time lol. Good advice that Jordi, lesson learned

  16. Ha ha They're not all mine mate, not by a long chalk. Selection played by everyone over the course of the night. Good list though innit
  17. Still have 90% of them T, great records mate! Sick to bloody death of the label ('rare, underplayed, funky edged, oldie' etc) n price tag thing / mentality. Just makes a balls of it all; good records are just that aren't they, regardless. Thanks again for the invite!
  18. Bit of a list as requested. Two 45 min sets in no order: Universals - diamonds & pearls Lovers - without a doubt Little Ron & Esquires - found someone Intensions - she needs somebody Lewis Clark - need you baby John Wesley - such a funny thing Soul City - shot for the moon Mad Lads - love is here today Marvin Gaye - lonely lover (unissued Jobete) Velvelettes - save me (unissued Jobete) Spyder Turner - good enough for me Joe Matthews - good thing going Ray Agee - losing again Don & Ron - I'm so so sorry Softiques - bashful Venturas - heart of love Les Chansonettes - deeper Cautions - no other way Richard Anthony - keep on livin' on Little Stanley - outta sight lovin' Irma & Larks (unissued Virtue) Eddie Holman (unissued Virtue) Gambrells - you better move Del Tours - sweet and lovely Tommy Rogers - pass the word Little John - just wait & see Pee Wee Shuck n Huey Summits - toy soldiers Monorays - love Tommy Turner - lazy Chuck Flamingo - whats my chances

  21. Spot on Dave. Really good record, obviously, but hardly the 'grail' ( how many of those can there be?) some tout it as. 5k+? Lol, on what basis? Definitely a supply / demand as opposed to [serious] rarity thing IMHO. I'd like to see em all on a table then invite folk to get their wad of tenners out
  22. Usually followed by Dr True love in those days Len as I recall
