  1. One up here, Burnley way, I'm pretty positive
  2. Me too mate, I caught one of those trains so boldly advertised on Barrow southbound platform: "to Preston & beyond" I kid you not. Funnily enough, used to travel to Morecambe with the lass who's dad was, as you now know, the singer and Sean Flannagan who's dad was, I believe the drummer. Chapter 5 and the A590 both great and both out of Barra
  3. I might know here Steve; a local town for local people
  4. Cheeky t*at, I'm from Barrow (which may be proof positive actually). Used to go out with the singers daughter. He didn't have any lol

Some stuff from previous list(s) in here, some of which have been reduced, and some other bits n bobs too. Plenty of tasty 45s at what I think are decent prices; rare stuff, some handy tried and tested tackle plus some great cheapies so have a good look. Strictly graded i.e. Ex means just that, vg doesn't mean its trashed and Vg- will look pretty scruffy for sure but will play without major dramas / the sound of bacon frying and be absolutely fine to dj with. 6. Need to raise some cash for new stuff so the following up for grabs. I've tried to grade conservatively to avoid disappointment, money back if you're unhappy of course. (Can't do soundfiles but if anyone wants to hear anything PM me and I'll happily play it over the phone). UK postage at cost, overseas signed for only. First up, two monster rarities in less than mint condition. Both play superbly though! First offer on or very near what I'm asking gets em, no faffing: Professionals - that's why I love you (Groove City) £1600 ONO Visually vg+ plays vg++ or better on TWILY side. Some label wear but no writing, tears or stickers. (The DMBC side looks and plays vg early on then improves but it ain't sh*gged). Not a battered record by any means and I think condition is reflected in the price I'm asking. Whoever buys it won't be disappointed - seems to me to be v similar nick to the one that went through ebay recently Royal Imperials - this heart of mine (Mellow Town) £1200 ONO Visually vg/+ plays vg++. Again, not a battered record by any means but not mint either; a bit of ring wear on label and lots of light marks but dnap significantly at all. Another chance to own a major rarity at a price which makes it more available to more people. The following are all at least Ex unless stated, Some tasty tunes here too Thornton Sisters - I keep forgettin' / ooh pooh pah doo (Test Press) vg++ £500 One of a mere handful which came from the estate of Sonny Casella Honey & the Bees - dynamite exploded (Arctic) £600 Vivian Carol - oh yeah, yeah yeah (Merben w/d) vg++ £500 Searling's old Roddie Joy c/u. Jackson Brothers - I've got to hear it from you (Providence Adv Promo) £100 Old Rufus Lumley c/u from Stafford Little Gigi - I volunteer (Decca promo) vg++ £125 And another... Bros of Soul - I'd be grateful (Boo) £100 Simply one of the best ... That'll do for now.If I'm miles out on any prices let me know. Cheers Phil
  7. I'll have it back when you're bored Kev lol

    Oops
  10. While I'm being stupid, I'd be quite partial to a CODs - she's fire. So, if anyone has one lying around doing nowt ...
  11. Eyup Mark Yes mate, Carl F has the other copy (far as I know anyway there's still the two known but that's always a daft thing to say)
  12. Righto I'm looking for: Walter & Admerations (La Cindy) Soul Inc (coconut grove) Hank Hodge (eye) the hard one Really long term wants. Consequently, I'd be willing to let the above go as part of a trade if anyone was interested. (Ray A is - losing again btw and Ex+). Have other things of similar ilk I may trade too but only for records I'm after (above); i'm not looking to sell them otherwise so please don't ask. (I'm also looking for Benny Harper, Four Andantes mind lol)
  13. I have one but am not about til next Wed to sort it. From memory, its a decent copy, vg++ or so. PM me what you wanna pay and your details if you're still looking Cheers Phil
  14. Love it and want it, always have. I thought I'd bid heavy money for a vg+ copy but, as ever, depends who's bidding and how much they wanted it I'd have sold and/ or traded major records and done without stuff for ages to own it but you've just gotta be patient I guess. If id had enough money this last year id've bought Mello Souls, Combinations, CODs, Soul Inc then packed it in lol.
  15. The psychology is fun too but a tad worrying: heuristics and related stuff re utility and value, frames & the impact of formulation effects i.e. emotive auction descriptors, memories associated with a record push buttons and we're away with the fairies ie. it's worth what someone is prepared to pay for it ... depends on a. What they can afford and b. what they think the pay off for them will be. B can and does go some way towards overriding A = barking mad We're mostly nuts and sometimes behave accordingly, despite / even when we know it's nuts: because what we think we're gonna get out of it somehow outweighs what we have to give to get it. A beautiful thing, nuts though. Ps. I'm on holiday and bored sh*tless btw. Just read that back ... I promise I'm not THAT big a c*ck. Anyway, i blame those bloody price guides, the interthing and the kid who sold me those marbles
  16. Needs somebody & hipper Need both, badly. Just tell me what you want for em via PM Cheers Phil

Viola Wills - the first time Bill Lucas - cause I know you're mine (hardly a raging dancer lol) Both on youtube atb Phil
  18. That's kind Dekka but I'm not sure about that pal, not at all All most of us do is listen to what other people play isn't it - granted, some make more of an effort to do it and some maybe develop an ear for it, hardly rocket science though. Another reason why I like to have a listen to respected collectors and folk other than the big boys from time to time is that you've maybe half a chance of getting hold of some of what they play, for one, which appeals no end to the collector in me but it pales by comparison with hearing Butch play to and being part of a crowd that's up for it. What the likes of mssrs Dyson, Dobson, Rix, Thomas, Croasdell, Gilly, Kitch etc have done over the years - and Anderson, Levine, Searling etc afore them - is entirely different gravy and I don't think anyone's under any illusions about that are they? Like I say, gotta know your limitations.
  19. Not trying to plug anything there btw! I just don't think many have the tunes to be genuinely 'progressive', and certainly not on a regular basis so you've gotta cut your cloth accordingly. Theres nothing like hearing something completely new that blows you away but in the absence of that i'll go for bloody ell, I'd forgotten how good this was (and if it's a fiver better still). That's what I think one or two can and do 'bring to the table' and I'm all for em
  20. That's pretty much the philosophy underpinning our hopelessly amateurish and shamelessly unprogressive 'Grumpy Soul' nites Len; in a nutshell, no more and no less. If one of the guests can slip something new and good enough in then there'll be no one happier than us. If they can't no dramas, get to LL etc and soak it up, we'll see you there. Just play 'proper' records and get people dancing. As Dirty Harry once said, "man's gotta know his limitations". atb Phil
  21. I hear you mate (pants are starting to chafe a bit to be honest which is possibly why I'm so miserable LOL) Agree with some of Jock's points too. You'd have to be pretty daft to argue that the likes of Butch, Andy D etc aren't miles ahead on the progressive score (Rob T, Adey and Andy Rix also turned unreal stuff up too of course), at least where quantity and out and out 60s tackle is concerned. They've been at it for donkeys and have put the most effort in by a country mile ... I'd also agree with the comments about too many so-called 'progressive' nights and djs diluting rather than adding to the mix. (I think the nighter scene is really tough these days for lots of other reasons too, doesn't help though). That said, I think you can hear Butch, Andy Dyson et al on a regular basis if you want to - and why wouldn't you? That's the yardstick. I'd also like to hear Franc Giacobbe, Carl Fortnum, Chris Jones, Andy Dennison and some of the European lads more regularly too though; not because they could do what Butch and Andy do (who can?) but because I think they have something to offer. We're talking supporting cast for sure, 'ten bob' seems a tad harsh though LOL I'd also really like to hear the main fellas do longer sets and maybe have more scope to push things from time to time.
  22. I do too Russ, course I do; totally disinterested ain't a great look is it As Paper Lace once said, "keep your pretty head low" bud atb Phil Ps. My favourite is the "I've paid a fookin fiver to get in ere." Yes, I know; I've spent upwards of 50k and 3/4 of my life, swap yer
  23. Eyup Bearsy, hope you're well mate. Interesting point that; what does 'passion' from a dj look like? I can't ever recall Pat Brady, Guy, Butch, Searling et al prancing around behind the decks, dancing to their own records etc. (Some seem to take it a stage further e.g. by fannying about they might get away with not having good enough records). Surely it's about building a set, knowing at least a bit about the stuff you're playing, using the kit well etc. WTF would anyone be looking at me anyway? I'm an absolute irrelevance; listen to the records and make your own mind up. I love em, that's why I've had the same underpants on for thirty years, to buy the bloody things. Cost me forty quid in petrol to get here - I'll look like I've just been dug up all week - there's seventeen in (including 11 djs) - I'm on at 5am - there's one deck broken and the other has a knitting needle ... ... I then discover, very publically, that nobody else likes em anyway and my taste is sh*t. How passionate would you look?
  24. Parliaments - rainy day. The ra ta ta ta ta ta occasionally does my head in and makes me feel like marching on the spot
