  1. Thought Karime Kendra looked pretty fit at Cleethorpes. She's gorgeous, can sing AND dance (as she proved by turning up just as one of the crowd this year!!) Mark C
  2. Not quite the same but NORWICH stands for (K)NICKERS OFF READY WHEN I COME HOME round our way Mark C
  3. HE'S The Soul Crusader from the East and was The Big 'Un from Wigan He makes YA feel Funky but Don't pity him,Baby!! He goes to the 6T's Uptempo Dance Club Society "Thingy" He's "Whizz on Soul" or is it "Soul on Whizz?!!" He's Soul-Rollin', Super-Spinnin', Hand-Standin', Multi-Venue Travellin', Northern Lovin' "BILLY" ps...Yes, he is a bit odd!
  4. Agree with you Mike. As a dancer I have encountered numerous incidents on the dance floor with idiots spilling drinks etc. Very annoying especially when you have undertaken a 3 hour (plus) journey to get there including the sh*tty road system out here in Norfolk just to get within sniffing distance of a motorway!! So I don't have a problem with an all night bar - just the people who use it as a means to getting p*ssed and ruining the night for rest of us Mark C
  5. Will do a deal with Mr C on the stairs leading down to some dodgy London joint for my copy Mark C
  6. Mark Forrest - his sets at Bamberg/Hamburg in recent years have been truly awesome!! Mark C
  7. Heard that Russ Winstanley's version of "Do I Love You" aint bad. Witness him performing it on Saturday Mark C
  8. Heard your set at the 100 Club last year Joan which I loved. Only thing was you weren't using the mic and as I didn't know quite a few of the tracks I never found out what they were... Mark C
  9. Steve Davis used to attend Soul Essence but apparently he stopped going because he couldn't afford to be wrongly associated with the "other" side of the soul scene. Mark C
  10. I thought that Jumpin Joan had met Eric Knowles and questioned him about his so called love of NS but his reply was that he wasn't a Northern fan?? Subject posted on here a few months ago. Mark C
  11. Hope the film actually comes out - been promised a ticket for the premiere. Although knowing my luck it will be Jordan on the red carpet and not Megan Fox! Mark C
  12. Great reply sir !! Mark C
  13. Still got it on video. Keb Darge was with him. Trevor Nelson was a bit unsure at first but came round when he realised people were just doing their own thing on the floor etc. He became familiar with some of the sounds during the night and said he even owned a couple. Thought it was ok mark C
  14. I missed the Clips but the scene where the pills fall all over the place reminds me of my first trip to the Casino. A group of us had travelled up from Norwich on a National Express coach which took all day to get there. Can remember feeling absolutely shattered at about 2am so when this guy runs passed dropping capsules everywhere I gobbed a couple, and being a very naive 17 year old thought that should do the trick. Next thing I know it's 7.45 and 3 Before 8 is about to start.... Mark C
  15. Might be wrong but sure I read somewhere that he is listed as DJing at the forthcoming Wigan Reunion weekend? Mark C
  16. ..but time to bury it in a time capsule and dig it up in 2039 (at the earliest) Mark C
  17. OK - we've got the ever expanding Northern oldies scene and the Modern oldies(!) rooms but when is someone going to launch the first "R 'n B Oldies" night??? Mark C
  18. ..and I thought I needed to get out more !! Probably The Salvadors Mark C
  19. I have some live tapes of the Fleet All-Nighter dating back to the early eighties. One I've got is of Chris Plant playing the likes of like Freddie Williams and Tee Fletcher. When that finishes he plays The Velvet Satins announcing "Right, let's try and get some atmosphere going!" The floor then packs - some things never change!! Mark C
  20. I heard a a slightly different theory to how Dave coined the phrase Northern Soul. In the late 60s groups of lads used to travel down to London from Manchester for the football and made a detour to his shop. They were always after the Wheel-esque records hence he set up a new section and called it "Northern Soul" Mark C
  21. I assume this request is for someone to play the part of one of the tea ladies - Gert, Daisy, Hilda etc etc ? Mark C
  22. But in my experience they never come back - it's always a different load the next time, and so on!! Mark C
  23. I went to the Wheel/Placemate 7/Rockies a few times in the 80's. On my first visit there was an excellent oblong shaped room playing CURRENT SOUNDS OF THE DAY and it was truly great, packed!! (Not so great the second time when there had been a fire and they shoved us in a shoe box sized room!) If there's a second room keep it FORWARD THINKING - there are enough DJs/punters in Manchester alone surely to make this work Mark C
  24. Want to speak to Ian James but lost my phone. Can someone pm me Thanks Mark C
  25. Yep Tim, but my contraption doesn't have speakers and the sound is bearly audible! So I want to blast summit out while I'm getting ready for a night out - got the great "Andy Etheridge" spinning in Norwich tonight! Class act... Mark C BTW has Searling played any of his Wigan oldies yet - lol PS Dave Brown on Smooth has just mentioned the "W" word!
