100 Club From Late 1990's - Live Recordings
I can vaguely remember Clarky turning up quite late one night, He was really pissed off as there was nowhere for him to put out his sales boxes. He was still DJing at the time but gave up soon afterwards - i honestly think that night helped make up his mind to stop DJing at the 100 Club. Can't remember the year but it must have been very early 90s. Mark C

Brighton August Bank Holiday
I'm planning on doing Brighton August Bank Hol but according to the All-Niter forum there are two Niters on the same night, Komedia and Babylon Lounge. Have I got this right? And if so why two events simultaneously?? Thanks Mark C

St. Ives 1977
I was slightly too young to go to the original Niters but was told Mickey Moonshine - Name it, you got it - was banned in the Oldies room for being too funky. Anyone confirm? Thanks Mark C

King's Lynn Alldayer I Think 1978
I went to most of the Dayers there and remember it well. The advert in (Black) Echoes claimed "We Are Now The Wigan Of The East" and numbers did exceed the 1000 mark on occasions. In addition to the DJs mentioned I'm sure Arthur Fenn DJd as did Brian Rae in the Oldies foom (actually the foyer of the venue!!) He was assisted by an old friend, Sean Burke from Norwich and the city was always well represented with 52 seater coaches. Mark C Just re-read earlier posts and saw Arthur confirmed he was on.

What's Happening
But think how many weekenders were on in those days, Yarmouth? Struggling to think of others. Just think of the 100 Club - Ady used to say that 50% of his attendees came from the Midlands/North but you only have to read some of the replies to his thread to see why that's all changed. Although I think next Saturday's Niter will be reminiscent of how things used to be down there!! Good to see that you and others like you are still supporting venues up and down the country, Daz!! 100 Club Crisis
Ady, As a "semi-regular" since 1982 I honestly think it's time to bring back strict door control or some kind of membership/soul card system. The "tourists" to me have spoilt the place over the last few years. I prefer the 10 - 6 times overall but think this has enticed more "chancers" into the club whereas in the old days most of them would have already found somewhere else to go before the 1.30am opening time. I have witnessed verbal and physical abuse (albeit a kick up the arse but nonetheless not pleasant!) and at the March one some idiots took my friends drink and said "what you gonna do about it?" I personally take my dancing very seriously and in a place the size of the 100 it's sometimes just impossible to escape the drunks on the dance floor!! I hope this doesn't come across as too dramatic and off putting but you asked for comments and this is just the way I see it... Musically, the place is still top notch and I really enjoyed myself at the January one amongst some of London's Hard-core 100 Clubbers - Trickster, Geoff, Dana, Tony, Imogen and Kev, Matt etc etc. The small contingent from Norwich still think the 100 Club has a special appeal, I just think it needs some "non-soulie cleansing"!!! The Top 10 Faq's Regarding Northern Soul
So Leicester Oddfellows, Bradford Queens Hall, Warrington Parr Hall, Chesterfield Winding Wheel, Peterborough Fleet, Shotts, Morecambe Pier, 100 Club and many other fantastic venues that I thought I attended in the 80's when Northern Soul died were just part of my vivid imagination!! Mark C

Souled Out

Youngest Soul Promoters?
I put on my first ever night at the Gala Ballroom in Norwich in 1981 at the tender age of 19. Tony Warot was the guest DJ and he keeps reminding me that I paid him upfront!! Still flying the flag with my Backstreet Soul Club nights (next one is Sat Feb 20th - see events) and in that time brought the likes of Brian Rae, Soul Sam, Sean Chapman, Carl Fortnum, Rob Smith and Banks 'n Bicknell to Norwich. A guy at the 100 Club on Saturday kept repeating "You're from Norwich??" obviously convinced we're all Turkey pluckers in Norfolk!! Mark C

An Amazing Thing Has Happened
Hi there! I can remeber seeing your name in (Black) Echoes many years ago as one of the DJs at Leeds Central. It's great to hear people like you are still around. Like me, your probably being a bit hard on yourself about the woman thing... Take Care Mark C

Stompers
Where I come from it's called shuffling - can just about make half a really short record these days! And we'd "stomp" to the faster dancers like Sam & Kitty, The Jades etc.. Mark C

Its Hard To Impress A Woman If You Don't Know Her
A girl in my office has told me her husband used to like Northern and is thinking of doing one of the local Norwich nights. So I've dug out a CD we gave away at the Backstreet Soul Club a few years back. It contains some stompers, Motown and one or two tracks from well known artists (Ike & Tina etc) Hopefully it will do the trick. No Snake, Bottle, Moonlight Music & You etc though! Mark

Contentious Events Thread Ever On Ss ?

I dabbled in coach organizing for a while, St Ives Dayers, Fleet, Notts etc. Now we just go in Billy's motor and he really is a Big Boy Mark C
