  1. A bit left field but fits in with the dislikes becoming likes.... and nothing to do with Northern so apologies, but I never liked Elvis until about 8-9 years ago. Now I love his stuff. However, never liked the Beatles... and still don't...and never will. Can't say that there's any particular Northern track that I have so disliked and then changed my mind. After all, I've always disliked Tim, Tam and the Tampons , sorry , Turn-ups and will never like it. Steve
  2. Good God! I'd forgotten all about those nights. Such a long time ago. Memories have faded but I certainly remember going over to Mablethorpe a few times. Not a great deal of locals into the scene but those that were certainly had enthusiasm and became good friends at the likes of the Cleethorpes do's etc. As far as the 45 goes, it has honestly been on the decks no more than twice. When I got it, I kinda recoginsed it and it wasn't until Andy (Rix) reminded me what it was that everything fell into place. He taped it, as he did all my new acquisitions and I taped it. I really don't recall ever playing it out as by the time I got it, Sam had taken it off his playlist and with no one else having a copy it seemed to lose its impetus. Let's speak again Best Steve
  3. Hi Pete, Definitely a strange one this as you say, stranger for me as I have the 45 and bought it not knowing what it was. It seems as though there are many folk out there who remember it as the cover up and yet barely anyone I have spoken to knew what the real title was. There is just the one listing on YouTube as far as I can see. Does anyone know how to identify the person that added the track as they may be the only other person to have the 45 by all accounts (unless of course it was taken from the album which I still havent seen). Would really be interested to find out as much detail about this stange but seemingly obscure track... just for nostalgia's sake as it were. Best Steve
  4. That's got to be about 78 surely but to be honest I don't remember roger from back then. Do you? I'm not saying he wasn't about. Just don't think he was the force he is now. Steve
  5. Apparently Sam has been arrested for trading bootleg vinyl. . . He's in a tiled room making a statement as we chat.
  6. Ron diggings rip
  7. Nothing to do with northern, just featuring a snippet of it. More the oppression of black civilisation as it was.weve moved on. We are one, as has always been the the soul scenes culture as far as I'm concerned. News night here we come Steve
  8. Best record of the show. . . . .lean on me. Job done
  9. And before the onslaught starts.... It's just a tv programme. Live with it, at least northern is getting played on mainstream tv. Any publicity is good publicity and all that. After all....... Seven days is too long hahahaha
  10. yeah right.... and I've never been for a sh*te in 50 years
  11. The thing is Spike so did Ron Diggins. He started during the war with two 78 turntables. I guess this would be a hard one to prove. Steve
  12. The Dj booth isn't up any ladders is it Spike Steve
  13. I've always had a problem with this "Jimmy Saville invented the twin turntable disco" thingy as per suggested on the documentary. I actually believe it was a chap called Ron Diggins from Boston. He was around quite a while before Saville. Anybody from that area know any more details? Steve
  14. Leeds..... now I think I've heard of that place. I also believe they had a football team once Steve
  15. Quite liked it myself compared to the usual drivel on Friday night TV. What you have to remember though is that possibly two thirds of what was said ended up on the cutting room floor. Maybe, just maybe, someone could have said things that would have had us all nodding in agreement and saying "yes, finally someone got it right". All it takes is some dick splash in the editing department to make the whole thing.... well, just a hash job... again. Steve

  19. I'll tell you what "should never happen to a DJ".......... getting records knicked out of your box. I've had some pretty valuable pieces go missing on occasions and on one of them I'm pretty damn sure who it was but what can I do without evidence. When you spend your hard earned on a 45 the last thing any DJ should have to suffer is it going walkabout.
  20. Maybe we should start a sub-section "Soulies who have had ball problems"... I'm in there with "Spike" and Mr Rimmer but mine was nothing to do with DJ'ing. Steve H
  21. To be "frank" Ian, I'm gonna stick with Spike, even if you do wince Steve H
  22. So are we to call you "Spike" from now on rather than the nickname you've had for all these years (but never liked) Steve H
  23. Always wondered why you walked like John Wayne Ian. Now we know Steve
