  1. Wigan was never the "Demon Child". It was the benchmark. It happened at a time when the Tv industry started taking notice in underground music... hence the documentary. I still maintain, had it not been for said documentary, we would not have had so many people join the scene at the time. How many stayed... who knows but what it did was draw curiosity from those that fleeted on the outskirts of our music culture. As Kevin has said, in a round about way, the whiole thing about Northern Soul is that it is a dance music culture. In that sense, the dance floor rules, the dancers rule. If they like a tuune it becomes a Northern Soul Hit. Black, White, Japanese... it doesn't matter where the origin relates to.... it's the beat that get's you on the floor, gets your juices flowing and the sweat dripping, its all abou the music. Wigan, to many, may have lost its way because of certain DJ's trying to keep something that was big at the time..."big". You adapt. It's business. There were those who didn't look at the financial gain and concentrated on the music... a certain Richard S. He ALONE and I repeat Alone paved the way for the music we hear now. He moulded the pattern that Stafford, Keele etc would take. He strated introducing the slower paced Soul that would eventuallylead to beat ballads, he championed Modern soul. Without Wigan... who knows where we would be. The old clips are played to death and are far removed from what Wigan had to offer in it's latter days. The early days were a fashion... a fad. The latter end before Richard left were the formative years of what is todays Soul muisc scene. Long live Wigan for what it both did and didn't do. Steve
  2. Just remembered another..... Guys From Uncle "The Spy". A strange but belting instrumental. I used the title as my "handle" when CB's were big only to find out that everyone thought I was a copper... just not so. Steve
  3. Yeah right..... "Fire up the Quattro"
  4. There's an issue on Anglo American for £150. Surely the rarest format. Got a demo with "Stay My Love" on flip and I would have put that about a ton max. My thoughts obviously Best Steve

  8. As far as i'm concerned, Keb maybe comes second to Rishard S in his "breaking of or reactivating" of records. He has such a broad taste but so intense in many ways. And what a dancer. As on the tape he did me once, his favourie saying as in the title of it was "Dance ya Bast**ds". Nuff said.

  12. Guys, guys, guys.....wobbly chairs, wobbly tables. You need to stop buying vinyl and concentrate on spending your cash on some quality furniture... you know, the original marked stuff, not some of this Ikea re-issue garbage Steve
  13. Ask Dave Raistrick on here... he runs the weekenders, Tamla Coffee Bar etc etc in good old Skeggy Steve
  14. I don't know why but "Love On A Mountain Top" seemed to get something of a revival at both the Palais and the Locarno at the same time. Even Sam played it at the Locarno on more than one occasion. Personally, one of my fave records from the Palais dayers was Toni Basil's "Breakaway". Rob Smith was forever hammering it but it just sounded so good blasting through that sound system. Happy days! Steve
  15. Hi Paddy I've been trying to get my CD's to play on record players but the grooves seem to shallow Steve
  16. When I first posted this. I wasn't really aiming it at the kids, moreso the adults that attend. However, someone somewhere within the family must have said to their kids if you want to go you must dress like this. They must have paid to have the clothes made and they must have told them that if you want to get into the music you must dress like this. Do they send their kids to school looking like that???? I can't imagine so. If the kids like the music then great but dont tell them to dress in something that goes back 40 years IMO of course
  17. 70's without a doubt Baggie Hip Hop style jeans of the 90's. Now we are into skinny jeans for those in teens...we as mature adults should dress accordingly... not baggy pants or circle skirts surel?
  18. For sure... a tme and a place but the music is timeless... the fashion is certainly not retro We had a period in the seventies where rock n roll came back in fashion Mud, Showaddaywaddy puke... but Northern in one form or another has influenced todays artists... but not in the fashion sense
  19. Exactly, we need to make it fashionable, not only for the music, but for being cool again fashion wise
  20. Exactly.... I was there. Fashion moved on. The hair, the clothes... they moved with the times, the music remained whatever. So why hasn't fashion in the clothes sense kept up Who in their right mind would want to be seen in a seventies style walking down the street looking like ...... well?
  21. Yeah, they look great.... but back then... this is 2012
  22. It is a free world but going out and looking dated for a music that is so forward thinking in the mind of so many of todays producers just made me think... why would you. Ive a pair of unworn 45" Spencers in the loft... would i wear them ... absolutely no apart from the factthat they wouldnt fit.... but I also wouldnnt want to look a Div as we said in the old days, times have moved on. Appreciate the music and progress accordingly dress wise My opinion Steve
  23. I'm intruigued, Why are there so many photos appearing in the gallery with people wearing circle skirts and baggy trousers. Musically this is a retro scene in what we listen to and yet it is progressive in the way that it influences todays music. Why then, do we have to find find people that dress in a fashion that has passed time. Music is timeless, dress fashion moves on. Do we really want to become a scene like the TEDS (The Edwardian Dress Society) where it's more about the dress to explain what or who we are than normal people, dressing normally (ie todays fashion) enjoying the musc that we love. Why should an outdated dress sense be part of the progressive culture of soul music. The music itself is sampled and copied, deserveredy so because it is so good. The fashon that went with it is so dated. Enjoy the music and dress accordingly.......... Shoot me down then Steve
