  2. New Release From Creative Soul - SpaceArk - Phantom Lover Release notes: SpaceArk was the brainchild of founder members, Peter Alan Silberg and Troy Raglin who formed the group in Los Angeles in 1973. The duo then enlisted talented musicians and vocalists and went on to perform regularly at music clubs, playing hits of the day from the O’Jays, Earth, Wind and Fire and other soul and funk groups and successfully introduced their own original songs which the group began recording from 1974. Major record labels had difficulty pigeon-holing he group’s unique style and so sadly they were unable to secure recording contracts. Undeterred, Peter and Troy started their own private label, ColorWorld Records and released their first album “SpaceArk” in 1975, followed by two 45s “Do What You Can Do”/”Welcome To My Door” and “Don’t Stop” in 1976. Their second album “SpaceArk Is” was released in 1978, from which the majestic “Phantom Lover” has been curated for our ‘A’ side. The lead vocals are from Troy Raglin, a.k.a Troy Dodds who’s “Try My Love” was a huge all-nighter spin during the 80’s. Peter speaks very highly of “Phantom Lover” saying it may be the best song that Troy ever composed and Troy’s stellar vocal performance made this song really soar when performed live. On the flip-side we’ve featured the previously unreleased extended take of “Don’t Stop (Loving Me)”. The shorter take was originally released under the pseudonym "Dolly Way & Space Ship Earth; the track features a 3-piece horn section, which in the extended take really brings the recording to another level. We are indebted to Peter Alan Silberg for giving his kind permission for this release and for the wonderful music that he together with Troy Raglin gave to the world. Creative Soul Records Videos

  4. From Detroit With Love EPs - Eight great tracks set free from the confines of the Motown master tape shelves and released for the first time on vinyl (at least legally). The hit machine that was Motown didn’t always recognise great tracks, the incredible output from the studios surely meant that the Quality Control Board would sadly fail to give a thumbs up on some occasions. The “From Detroit With Love” EPs from Soul4Real are here to testify to that and right those wrongs…… Demand for the beauties is expected to be high, so make sure you don’t miss out. Available for pre-order now with mailing on 20thJune from Creative Soul www.creativesoulcouk.bigcartel.com
  5. Soul Prescription - Various Artists - Available for Pre-order. Due early December | Creative-Soul.co.uk (bigcartel.com) Just what the doctor ordered... Soul Prescription. Whatever condition your condition is in, Soul 4 Real have huddled together a team of the finest soul physicians to make you feel good, We scoured all the shelves in the soul pharmacy, and discovered some potions that were only just through the trial stage. Just one listen to the brilliant Aretha, Gladys, Walter Jackson and the Purify’s tracks, convinced us not to wait for FDA approval, so we took the plunge and shared them with the world on vinyl for the very first time. Recorded in 1968, Arthur Alexander‘s magnificent “I Need You Baby” reached legendary status during the tape-swapping epidemic of the late 70' /80’s. The first traces of Alexanderitus were linked back to a tape dispensed by a north London mod by the name of Randy Cozens, which went viral. Even today, the mere mention of the title to any of those C60- swap-survivors can cause severe heart palpitations. Down in Memphis, they tend to practice the holistic approach to heartaches. Southern folk understand it’s about the voice and it’s natural healing powers, especially when it’s being administered by the likes of the Soul Children and Shirley Brown, who instinctively inject the perfect amount of ache, warmth and emotion to hit just the right spot. May we prescribe at least, two listens a day, taken with or without food. Helping with recovery we have included tracks by our care team Maxine, Gil Scott-Heron and the Isleys, whose gentle grooves will help nurse you back onto the dance floor in record time. And finally, my personal favourite, Dr Johnnie Taylor, frankly how someone who delivers the lines "she don’t break no records when it comes to good looks” and “she burns up the food when she cooks" to his girlfriend and manages to avoid a trip to A&E Hospital, we decided such foolish bravery should be rewarded by having his picture on the album cover.

  7. New Release from Creative Soul - MT Jones - I'd Be Lying MT Jones - I'd Be Lying / In My Arms - Creative Soul There was a slogan carried on t-shirts and record bags a few years ago which simply said "Soul music, if I had to explain it, then you wouldn't understand". It's true up to a point, you have to listen, you have to have an ear to really appreciate to then understand what it's really about. We think that our next release should have carried a strap line, "MT Jones.... soul music explained" Available from mid-December, and available for pre-order now. We expect this to sell out, and those that have seen MT Jones supporting Jalen Ngonda's performances will certainly agree with us. In MT Jones there’s unquestionable talent and passion for REAL soul music that crosses so many boundaries. It should come as no surprise that he now supports Jalen Ngonda's European tour. We are so excited to have his music on our logo and to release these tracks on the most fitting format…. on wax! Here’s what soul music connoisseur, Brian Goucher has to say… 'In May 2023 I stumbled over MT Jones and his "I’d Be Lying", I was totally transfixed with the subtle nod to Robert Parker's immortal "I Caught You In A Lie" couple that with a unique and soulful voice and you have something very special. He is already a seasoned singer, songwriter and multi-instrumentalist who started his journey at the age of 8 on the piano, his music is grounded in his affair with soul music; Motown, Stax and Atlantic featured heavily in the early years, his earliest influence being the legendary Ray Charles. He has travelled the world honing his talents which he repeatedly reveals on his ability to seamlessly combine the past with the present day to output serenely soulful and timeless music. Soul radio in the UK has already given airtime with frequent plays of the topside. Flip the 45 over for the stunning builder “In My Arms” which morphs into a compulsive piece of soul music in its own right. An utterly fabulous release.' 9. So, the word’s out on our third Creative Soul release, which if everything goes according to plan is scheduled for January. This time we’re shining a light on the very talented and rarely heard Jewel Bass, pulling the incredible ‘I Need Love’ out of the shadow of ‘Just Don’t Love You’, both recorded in 1978 as Centaura and released on the near mythical Spiral LP in 1979. Whilst we know and love Jewel Bass and her recordings as a solo artist, within groups such as Centaura / Carbon Copies and as a featured (but often uncredited) vocalist in her work with Natural High, Sho-Nuff, and Freedom, very little is known about Centaura. Aside from the Spiral LP, the group seem to have little other recording output. A 45 was released by them in 1981 ‘Centauraland’ / ‘Why Can’t We Love’. Recorded at Lockett’s Recording Studio in Birmingham ALA, produced and arranged by Centaura and released on their own Centaura label. They also participated in the Budweiser Showdown from which ‘Your Love Is All I Need’ was released as a Budweiser Showdown 12” in 1983. We hope you’ll agree with us that ‘I Need Love’ is worthy of a 45 release in its own right, and of course what else would you put on the flip other than the incredible ‘Just Don’t Love You’. Sandra St. Little - I am Better - Honeycomb Music Revelations - I Gotta Have It - Decision Records Alicia Myers - Journey - Love Town Music Betty Wright - In The Middle Of The Game - Ms B. Records James Taylor Quartet - Woman - James Taylor Quartet - Chinchin Records .... and one for the jazzier heads out there... Sunlight Square - Skyscrapers - Sunlight Square No danger in any hype lifting the value of these tunes up for at least 20 years....
