Classic Wigan Casino Instrumental
It sounded absolutely fantastic in there with those ballroom accoustics. Yre right about being there; no one cares about instrumentals anymore, but as you know they used to light the Casino up, and cause dancefloor mayhem, lol.

Classic Wigan Casino Instrumental
Yeah Tony it was. I still love it, but to many now its a joke, and an absolute no no to play. It worked superbly though in that huge ballroom.

Classic Wigan Casino Instrumental
Pal and the Prophets. Peace pipe. Jamie. Covered up as Luther Ingram Orch. ‘Space Odyssey’. Sounded great at the Casino, and the right tempo for those times lol. Also, another 2 in the morning monster instrumental……proper!

Auctions feedback…Ughh
I certainly think the whole focus on prices, be they via auction or otherwise, is pervasive in relation to other topics around our collecting/listening/buying hobby. Like others here I do love to see what prices records fetch, and sometimes Im surprised, not just by high prices, but also by low prices relative to the quality and/or rarity of the record, and herein lies my main gripe about the whole prices thing. If only there was the same level and volume of discussion and interest about how good this or that record is, (regardless of value) instead of just what price it fetches. I feel I learn so much on these and FB pages about values of records, but in contrast so little about ‘good records’. Surely thats the problem; not enough balance. Thats not a criticism of the info provided here about Auction results; keep em coming, no problem. But why is there so little discussion (Generally not just here, Northern-wise) about ‘good records’, be they £5 or £5000? Loving music got me into this thing, not a love of ‘commodity’ values. If you’ve ever played (privately to a mate, or publicly via djaying) a good cheap record, and witnessed the sheer unbridled pleasure it gives someone who likes it and is overjoyed to find its ‘only’ £20, you’ll know exactly what Im talkin about. Conversely if you only ever buy/collect/talk about expensive ‘Trophy’ records, you wont have a clue lol. Just a personal perspective.

SIMON SOUSSAN | MIND BLOWING NORTHERN SOUL! Charley Channel
I dont honestly know. I know others went through that stuff after Ian Clark and I, but what was left after that, and who ended up with it, I have no idea.

SIMON SOUSSAN | MIND BLOWING NORTHERN SOUL! Charley Channel
It should be very very interesting; looking forward to it. He certainly had a dodgy side, but I’d say this. I was lucky enough in the early 80’s along with Ian Clark, to be invited to Les McCutcheons home to view Simon Soussans collection, which was being sold through Les. What a sight that was! That haul of records all together like that, would blow most collectors minds; it blew mine!! Rarely do any of us see that many rare original records, all in one place in this country. It was phenomenol, amazing. Everything was for sale, and the pricing was amazing (Cheap!!)but thats a whole other story. Anyway, my point is, whatever retrospective judgements we feel inclined to make about SS, I think we shouldnt lose sight of the fact that he found, discovered, loved, and collected these records a long time before most of us here did, in a country where there was no other collector interest, and no Rare Soul Scene, as a context for doing so. That he was also clearly a bootlegger, along with everything immoral about that is not in doubt though. Whats also clear to me though, having seen and bought (extensively) from that collection, is that he really did love Northern. Somehow bootlegging and collecting the same music seem irreconcilable facts I guess, and Im not defending anything he did; depriving artists of what theyre due is just plain wrong. But somewhere in there is a man who loved what we do, and discovered and collected a lot of it before us, so for that I’ll give him credit.

Prostate cancer
At the age of 50 I asked my GP for the PSA. So annually since, I have what I call my MOT, lol. In one blood test, I get about 8 things covered; Cholesterol, Prostate, blood sugaretc etc; well worth it. Im well used to that GP line now…….”Your PSA result is………..and its fine, HOWEVER, its not conclusive, and a ONLY physical test can…………” As yre processing that statement, hes already putting the rubber gloves on, lol. In all honesty I’d say this. Its not exactly painful; more like weird and uncomfortable, BUT its 30 seconds to a minute, and thats all. From that point of view, its completely tolerable. Most people have had worse pain with other things, without batting an eyelid; for example falling off a bike and scraping a knee, (which is worse and lasts longer). So accept its gonna be uncomfortable, but acknowledge that for a few seconds every year you can take it. Get it sorted is my advice. You have to wonder at the NHS thinking in this country regarding preventative treatment (would surely save the NHS millions!). Every 2 years, since I hit 60, without requesting it, I get my bowel cancer pack posted to me. Yet for Prostate cancer which is more of a threat to UK mens health here, we have to request it; how dumb is that!!??

ASHTON UKRAINIAN CLUB
Really enjoyed it and great to see lots of old faces and friends doin what we’ve been doin for decades; messin with vinyl and talkin it to death lol. Enjoyed the music; good variety and mix, so hats off to all the djs. Another absolute Masterclass in Rare Soul djaying from my main man Butch again. Time after time delivering spots that cannot and will not be replicated. To do that for decades, like he has, takes some doin. All we can do is stand and admire, listen, dance, (as we all did Im sure), and wish we owned what he plays! Well done Ashton team; it was a good un👍🏽
