Requiem For Detroit
Paul A mixture of declining US inner cities probably including Detroit as well as Chicago (some of the clip includes the 'L' and a blue & white with Chicago Police clearly imprinted). Good track though - fabulous. Mick

Requiem For Detroit
As most posters have said it is very sad to see such a stark decline of a city that bred so much talent. I was aware of the decline before the programme last night as I've done a bit of research for a small project I've been working on and if anyone is interested, have a look at these photos on flickr - some fabulous buildings just left to rot... Requiem For Detroit
Well now, I've just checked the listings with the TV controller (I have Freeview as any good Yorkshireman should have - it's free you see) and according to that it's 'highlights of lambing live from 7:30 to 9 with Kate Humble - it better not be as BBC will be getting short shrift from me..... Mick

Northernsoul Dancin On Tv Wayyyyyyyy Back
Rich Just as a matter of interest do you know or have you met Pete McNulty from Poole? He's kind of my Brother in law - basically he's married to my partners Sister - he goes to many of the Northern do's in the Bournemouth/Poole area - re the rivalry it can't be that bad 'cos he's from Poole but is a staunch Bournemouth Utd fan.... Saturday 13 March Bbc2 Three Motown Shows 7-15 Start
Bit lost here. Looked at the TV guide and in Scotland its Top Gear at 6:30, Dads Army at 7:30 and then Requiem For Detroit (see my other thread). Wrong date or difference between Scottish and English BBC? Mick

Requiem For Detroit
For any Detroit anoraks (like me) there is a programme on BBC2 tonight at 8pm called Requiem For Detroit. With its thriving car industry and innovative musical output, Detroit was once a beacon of American progress. The fourth largest city in the US, it was also one of the wealthiest, thanks to the Big Three - Ford, General Motors and Chrysler. Today, Detroit is leading the way once more, but not in a good way - poverty and unemployment have soared, and it is the first major US city to become a virtual ghost town. So what lies ahead for Detroit? Directed by Julian Temple, this poignant documentary looks at the past, present and future of the city that once symbolised the Americnan Dream, but is now 'a darkly cautionary tale for the entire industrialised world'. Anyone who has Keith Rylatts book may find this interesting I suspect. Mick

Northernsoul Dancin On Tv Wayyyyyyyy Back
I stand corrected - I think that it must have been you guys sitting on the benches 'cos I was at the Curtis Mayfield all nighter so perhaps it was that night after all. Did admire your audacity to wear something totally outside of the Northern scene - I did like that 'look' at the time but I was too busy spending my money on other things to include clothes.... Mick

I think that at least a couple of the BRALT guys went to Hinkley a few times - fairly sure I was sat next to them one time on those 'bleachers'. Mick

Frank Wilson -"he Who Shall Not Be Named" On Ss
Macca I've often wondered whenever Frank gets mentioned on here or elsewhere regarding 'that' song whether he reads what's said and gets upset by some of the downright nasty comments (it's only a bleedin' record). It goes back to what Rob said at the start of this thread re "rarest soul record" ", "rarest Motown 45" & an effin' good record to boot - he should take great pride & ignore the moaners.. Mick

Records You've Not Heard Out
Pete Didn't know that High & Mighty were The Reflections - is that well known & if not how did you find out? When I first heard Escape From Cuba I thought it was great so I must've been mashed at the time as it really is one of those tunes on reflection (lol) that makes you feel a little ill. Mick

Northern Soul Monopoly
Kev Like I said I'll post photos later but the three 'Mayfair' properties are Ain't No Mountain High Enough, War and I Want You Back and the aim of the game is to "buy songs, collect recording studios, trade your studios for a Gold Record (which) sounds easy enough but lose your voice, get dropped from your group, or have your record fall from the charts, and it becomes a little more difficult and a lot more fun!" (reminds of another thread on here about celebrating failure actually). The players pieces as opposed to the top hat, car, scotty dog etc in the standard game are star, saxaphone, musical note, microphone, guitar and juke-box. Mick

Northern Soul Monopoly
Kev Don't know if you are aware but a few years ago some organisation in the US put out Motownopoly - allegedly this was not authorised by MCA/Motown! A handfull of the games turned up at Beating Rhythym in Manchester (Tim Browns' shop) & I got one as a Birthday present from Mark Bicknell. I haven't got a clue what it actually looks like inside as it is still in its cellophane wrapper - I thought that it might turn out to be worth something in years to come which may be true if the rumour I heard was true. Alledgedly (I feel I have to keep using that word) an injunction was taken out to prevent its sale and only a few 'got out' so to speak. I will take a couple of photos of the box & post later - unless anyone else has it & does it quicker. Mick
