Really, A Plaque ? The Casino was a part, yes an integral part but just a part of a wider already established 'Scene' that had arisen over the previous 5,6 - 10 years, however you choose to look at it. It is important in our field but as a Heritage Site ? The Majority of the time The Casino as it became, was used for other things, or not used as the case may be. Are we to have a Plaque at Samanthas in Sheffield which holds more and better memories than The Casino - for me ! Wakefield Unity Hall - 6 Months but what a 6 Months it was. Cleethorpes, Blackpool Mecca, Va Va's ... Its your own memory and it should be so. we shouldn't be foisting our own perceptions of importance onto this its got to be in perspective. We on the Soul Scene have a self absorbed blanket of importance that we wrap around ourselves but to some outsider we are considered the Clowns in the great Music Circus. Perhaps we should just accept out station in life ( not Station Road ! ) and try to fall back to our nice little underground bunker that we used to frequent back then. Long live the Memory of the Casino - we loved you but now you're gone.
  2. Bazza, It's been around a while but like you say, not many around so doesn't get played out much. Not sure when this first raised it head above the choppy waters of the Soul Scene but a fantastic tune.

Neil works at the same place as my Wife in Chesterfield. Still does the rounds although he doesn't seem to be at as many as he did a year or 2 ago. As Rob said, DJ's at Oxcroft every Month and still at the same place in Clowne.
  5. Wouldn't mind the Car. '67 MG B Roadster
  6. If you live in Stoke would that be a Local Do ? Yes, agree Len, hundreds of 'Local Do's' every week. Some attracting an audience a little wider than the Town but majority are for local people and freinds of the organisers. Possibly a few too many that are watering others down but we would be complaining, as we tend to do, that there were not enough !
  7. Didn't know Frank too well but always a sad day when a freind passes. Our Hearts are out to his Friends and Family XXX

  15. Cheers Pete for the info, but I still prefer the earlier version. Seems more refined and laid back and such an impressive vocal. Maybe I haven't given Timebox enough listening as always had and listened to the 4 Seasons. Perhaps I don't want to like it if you know what I mean !
  16. Yep, 4 Seasons did it in '67 and Timebox, as they tended to do, covered it in '68. Mr Valli's unmistakable tones are far superior to those of Kevan Fogarty. Sadly, Timebox's version seem to be the chosen one these days.

Major disappointment in that I never got to see them perform live. Heard nothing but spectacular about their live shows. So many good tracks to choose from. Still love Happy Feeling and Septempber.
  21. Stop Girl - 7 Dwarfs has caused a little consternation in the past.
  22. Used to frequent Canklow which was a wreck of a joint. A massive crack ran down the middle of the Dance Floor, There was one Toilet for both Ladie and Gebts where the pan was precariously balanced on a Beer Crate. The wals were decaying and the room stunk of damp etc. Fantastic place, one never to be missed.
  23. First came across the great man when following up on David Bowies 'Manish Boys' single 'I Pity The Fool' Opened a whole new field of Music for me. RIP Bobby

Bit of a shit hole but oozed atmosphere. Missing some of the best records played at The Casino but more often missing a lot of the worst records played at The Casino and despite what the Casinophiles might say, there were a lot. It was a Marmite Room.
