Picture a world with no more soul events
I haven’t commented because I simply don’t know. Clearly venues will start opening but it’s going to be awhile before the scene is anywhere near normal. Sadly I cannot report anything you don’t already know. One would assume some events will survive others will fall by the wayside. For now it’s a case of grin n bear it 😩

Best and worst 'tailor-mades'?
A very clever piece of tomfoolery by Ian. He certainly didn’t need to ‘scratch any copies’ nor did he sell it for high sums. However, it was inevitable that while he slipped out copies to US dealers, it would surface in the UK by traders(and a fair few) looking for profitable sales. Strange how only Ian L gets the blame though.

RIP Eugene Thomas (Epitome Of Sound)
EUGENE ‘Jean Thomas RIP Sadly the legendary lead singer of one the scene’s greatest ever 45’s You Don’t Love Me has passed away. Our thoughts are with his family and group originator Robert Paladino. My journey with ‘Jean’ started in 1974 as one of the original Wigan Casino team, who helped break the phenomenal side on Sandbag. I had the good fortune to meet label owner(Mike Szymanski) and producer Tony Camillo(RIP) before connecting with Robert. Eugene appeared for the first time ever performing the song at SoultripUSA Orlando https://youtu.be/qAL-aggJ2fw Later an appearance at the famous Blackpool Tower performing both sides of his classic in front of 2,500 enthused Jean beyond belief. A truly beautiful man who is loved by not only his family, but the entire Northern Soul collective. Rest In Peace my dear friend. Thanks to Andy Lothian for letting me know.

Update The 5th Blackpool International Soul Festival
UPDATE: THE 5th BLACKPOOL INTERNATIONAL SOUL FESTIVAL. Firstly, thanks for your patience and understanding over recent weeks. In these exceptionally difficult times we have taken the difficult decision to postpone the event which was due to take place over the weekend of June 12th-14th. The re-scheduled date, when we will come back bigger and stronger than ever, is confirmed for June 18th-20th, 2021. All tickets already purchased for June 2020 will now be automatically transferred to this new date. We have spent the recent days talking with all the artists who were due to appear this year, and we can now confirm that Maxine Brown, Barbara Mason, G C Cameron and Jimmie Delphs have all agreed to appear next year, and, to ensure that it's our best event to date in 2021, I have also secured the services of three more legends of our music : Betty Harris, Darrow Fletcher and Dean Parrish! So, seven wonderful American acts for us all to look forward to in June 2021! If you require any further information on the ticketing side of things, please email to: ticketquery@wgbpl.co.uk Please be patient whilst your query is dealt with as the venue are currently dealing with other rescheduled events. For their added safety, the team there are all working remotely at the moment, but please be assured that we value your support. Please note: We will soon be on sale to NEW customers for June 2021 at NEW prices, and we will keep everyone updated on this via our website: https://www.blackpoolsoulfestival.co.uk Of course we would have loved to run as planned this June and to welcome you all to one of the most eagerly-anticipated soul weekenders on the calendar, but we are determined to come back stronger than ever next year, when we are all in a better place and ready to celebrate all together, in style. Sending love and hope to you all, The Blackpool International Soul Festival team.

Record thefts whilst djing
Some well thought out discussion and happy to take part. Back to the ‘Dark End of the Street’ though.........thieves often have someone to sell to immediately........and the embarrassment of collectors/DJs challenging certain known fences can often be gut wrenching.
-
Record thefts whilst djing
Half the problem is we are all a bit too old and embarrassed......particularly if we get to know who the perpetrators are. A very close friend of mine had a fair whack lifted yet ‘let it slide’ Far more common than we think. Most are going unreported methinks. Maybe not so much now, back in the day though...........😩

Record thefts whilst djing
Hi-Take your point but goes far wider than that In my case we are talking 15 years ago. And 28 years past....an even bigger loss! Sean C around 6 years. It’s not every week. The point I was trying to make is, there have been and still are malicious predators willing to nick anyone’s goods given half a chance. Some have the fence ready to offload to. You can imagine after 48 years on the scene, one could easily name a few names.....which I certainly won’t do.
-
Record thefts whilst djing
These days most seasoned pro’s are on double guard duty against predators. When you have done you fair share of gigs though, you can still get caught cold.

Go for the latter

Record thefts whilst djing
Straightforward opportunism. There has to be someone to sell em on to......sadly those dealers & ‘collectors’ never come forward as I can testify!
-
Record thefts whilst djing
My losses totaled around 5 grand. Industry colleague Sean Chapman had 2k’s worth lifted at Prestatyn and now refuses to stand at venues with collectibles. 😩😥

Record thefts whilst djing
If your talking about Samantha’s Sheffield, it has to be the one of the worst venues ever for thefts. With the DJ facing the dance floor, your record box would be behind you. I had several nicked in 1974 and again in 2005. I duly ceased promoting immediately thereafter. The really sad part is, I was told that the thief simply did it because ..... ‘I could afford to lose them’......😩

John Anderson R.I.P.
A very sad day indeed. The true master of vinyl for half a century. Had many chases with him in the US back in the day. He generally won! His mentor the late Bernie Binnick was also a friend Rest in peace dearest John.

The carletts
No need to apologise.......not sure I ever mentioned it before 👍
-
The carletts
It isn’t a bootleg. I found the originals at Bobby Robinson’s(BR) Record Wagon in 75. The Carletts are his daughters. He then manufactured for me 500 on his own BR label. The 4 or 5 copies on its first BR label were sold at £20 each. Cheers

Simon Soussan Djing @ Wigan Casino
Jordan, To put things in context. The appearance was just a moment in time. Youngsters were dancing and buying Footsee, The Javells, Simon’s Papa Oo Mow and similar He just pushed the boat a bit further and it quite rightly didn’t sail. Shortly after, an influx of funkier newish releases were introduced and they too found debate....even then. Hope you get to hear the recording. Not sure who followed SS.....obviously one of us 3. Oddly enough, he had a box of top notch 45’s with him on stage. We had to suffer the Dyamites- Ain’t No Soul Inst first though before we could get to buy them 😂

R.I.P. John Gary Williams.
A ‘Mad Lad’ who welcomed us to Mclemore Ave, Memphis a few years ago. A charming man I won’t forget in a hurry. God Bless ya John.
