Great post paul, the best dancers are always the ones that are really ,truly feeling the soul,.. not just pretending and dancing ad-lib i.e spins , splits etc willy nilly and not at all in time with the music,( you see it all the time),it bugs me,.. it dos,nt have to be acrobatic, just in cink, with the tempo , i agree with the points made regarding leaving the competitions back in the 70s, dont think it fits todays scene,..and i myself were considered an above average dancer, and even won a comp in the late 70s at halifax civic all-dayer....judged by searling himself, my prize a "sounds of the grapevine" album demonstration copy.mind you i travelled with good company at the time, Vernon, Paul.murphy, Paul Wilky etc etc. i even got sacked at the supermarket where i worked, because everytime the boss came round the corner,..i was "spinning" in the aisles..happy days.

...yeah, remember it well,.. strange thing it almost filled the floor,.. mind you that was the time it was all starting to get a bit ( lot) weird i.e joe 90, white stompers etc,...suppose it was all part of the "era",..warts an all..although i have to admit i always had a soft spot for the belmonts.....

you can get some bargains and like already said,.. some are way over priced,.. same as buying at niters, you can get some proper bargains, but i find this method increasingly difficult, first of all in most niters its very difficult to see in the poor light, or pitch black, depending on which niter your at,.also trying to listen on the headphones is awkward when the musics blasting out alround you,..bet i,m not alone in thinking you,ve got a steal...only to be deflated in the cold light of day..and light, on the real condition, once you get outside.Back to soul source though, no ones forcing anyone to buy out, and it all depends if the seller is wanting a quick sale or not, if the records over priced, it disspears down the listing never to be seen again, if its on the money, someone will probably buy it.... any body noticed that some records are unsold at really bargain prices and then a couple of weeks later someone else list the same record 2 or 3 times the price...and it sells ..

yeah, there were several " last nights" but this was supposed of been "THE" last night, infact it was the last but one, an "all ticket" affair at a £5 a go ( lot of dosh back then)...You,re Right though,,, we were young and vunerable .

Do you remember where you were when the lights went out?, i,m talking about the Casino in 81, the night that was touted as the last ever Wigan Casino Nighter, ( which never was ) because after entering we found out there was going to be another Last ever allniter,later on, ..felt a bit peaved at the time, because it cost me a fiver for that ticket,..and also to rub salt in, they started letting people in on the door for a quid. A strange thing happened that night, that had never ever happened before, i,m talking about the Total Power Failure that occured,..remember it? i do distinctley, i was ( unusually)instead of dancing on the floor, wandering about on the balcony at the time, when without warning the atmosphere of deafing loud music, 100,s of stomping dancers and the eriee lighting, all of a sudden, was plunged into total darkness and silence, and as to be said "panic"it only lasted for a few minutes, but it seemed forever , and nobody knew what to do, you could,nt see nowt, pitch black....i remember where i was because i stumbled over a sleeping body on the floor and it sticks in my mind, because as all casino goers remember,( when you could see) there were bodies all over the casino floors, tables etc that you just stepped over as you milled about the place.. Do You Remember it?
