  4. must be coming over in a banana boat...
  5. agree with you there pete the backing vocals just ruin it ootp, the lead vocals ok though, lots of records have been spoilt with the backing vocals ( could probably do a thread on em) another off the top of my head is sammy lee , it hurts me on rampart among many others......(.£200.. )
  6. worst nightmare...i.m sure that EVERY soul source member and his dog will now be keeping all there ears and eyes wide open now we know about this despicable act, and that the records firstly are recovered and the perpetrator/s receive what they deserve, a (rope)..i am truly devastated for you, but beleive if it was a soulie,,there,s no hiding place and this time crime certainly wont pay....best thing they could do is ring the local nick annominously and reveal where there stashed,so that they can be returned to there rightful owner/s asp.!! best wishes for a speedy conclusion.. Chris.

if you play at a venue pretty regulary the punters have a general idea what your spots gonna entail, therefore you could well surprise them by playing tunes that are unknown/semiknown of a different genre or just personal favs you would normally spin just at home maybe coz there slower and not very dancable etc. personally i think a 50/50 mixture is better and when i used to do a bit of spinning thats what i preferred personally.. but alas not all soulies want to listen to "something unknown" and will just vacate the dance floor no matter how good it is ,just because they,ve never heard it before...and all d,js know how to fill it up again..by playing the same old same old.

  13. all you need now is someone to feed you with em, chris..
  14. just to clarify, that aint me folks .....even though i,ve done that myself.. ...
  15. yep been there Russ, you,ll be watching your clock all night thinking at this time i could be here at that time i would be doing this.. ...another bummer is the clocks go back tonight so you,d get an extra hour...(to make the journey)...dont mean to temp you. . your doing the right thing.. only joking Russ .
  16. one record i used to nip to the loo to was darrell banks "our love"..i had it to a tee..i knew the exact time it finished and every note in the record, i would go have a pee..stop and chat at the bar, then stop again on the way to the decks .talk to more people.and you could see the look on some dancers faces as though to say you better get back behind them decks pretty quick otherwise were all gonna look stupid..but i always got there and it was as if i,d never moved....
  17. dont know if this topics been covered before, but what mis-haps have happened to dj,s on here? we all know about the dancer bumping into the decks and ruining a expensive record but theres allsorts of unusual things that can and do happen. on one occasion when i started out i had drank a bit too much to settle the nerves before my spot i opened up with "little ritchie" and was cuing in my next record when someone came up and started chatting to me i then played the second record and with the distraction then cued little ritchie in again..i therefore in the space of a 3 record spot played 1 record twice..slightly embarrassing i must admit, What amazed me was that the dance floor DID,nt empty, lesson learned dont drink and spin...well not to excess anyway.anyone else done owt silly.
  18. yeah all ok this end..Pete..fantastic set .
  19. ...nah..i aint Dave.
  20. i,ve had a couple of the black and white demos and automatically assumed they were boots..and sold em on for peanuts.. ....they gotta be surely
  21. its all down to pecking order suppose, i opened up many a night when i dj.d ...one good thing is you can try out different tunes, where as later on a dj can sometimes be wary of clearing the floor and decide to play it safe, back to the point though i agree with the 1 hour minimum spot, as said half hour you dont get chance to express yourself.
  22. ,,,,i,m in the uniques camp..quality.Pete. .
  23. nice tribute Pete....R.I.P. Alton.
