  1. i love music...always have....had records bought for me from the age of 6....played my dads before that.....spent my pocket money as a teen on them (instead of pacman like my mates)....got a criminal record shoplifting them to order from school mates !.... but ofcourse i dont like all music....but i can get the same buzz i get from a soul tune from a reggae/ska/indie/mod or punk tune.....but not rock...except a few 70s who tracks or the doors maybe....but thats what i love about music...you have no control , if you are honest and dont follow the pack..its something inside... i once saw a programme with louie farou (however you spell it) in south africa...talkin to a racist afrikaans bloke and his whole vinyl collection was us soul !...mainly 60s but also some more political 70s....when louie pulled him on it he got stroppy and walked off.....just like rascist skins at the yarmouth scooter rally 86 liking desmond dekkar one minute and sieg heiling and kicking off the next !...odd but as marley said... 'ONE GOOD THING ABOUT MUSIC...WHEN IT HITS YOU ...YOU FEEL NO PAIN !'

  4. my filing system sounds complicated but i find it the quickest way to find a tune...especially if i change my mind at the last moment....i hate just grabbing any tune cos the playing record is ending....interupts the flow man ! my box has 3 rows...the first starts with maybe 20 rnb....then about 30 motown...then when playing go go children like friday, about 40 that have never been played there...we like to play a good ammount of 'new' tunes every month... the next row about 40 feamale vocal then vocal groups... the next row is all male vocals also those that are known as classic or overplayed top 500 tunes and are more likely to be requested tend to be together at the back of the rows...simple so i'll give you first 15 in row 2 and 3... im gonna hold on/ marlena mars...mgm demo ill try anything/dusty spingfield...phillips uk gimme back my love/paulette parker...duke too hot too hold/betty everett...vee-jay demo think a little sugar/barbara lewis...atlantic prove it everyday/shirley wahls...blue rock one in a million/rhetta hughs...columbia stop and get a hold of myself/gladys knight...maxx mamas got a bag of her owh/anna king...end suger lets shing a ling/shirley ellis...columbia with my love.../jean wells...calla lonely love/bettye swann...money i cant rest/fontella bass...checker much better off than ive ever been/ruby and the romantics...kapp loves like quicksand/sandy wynns...canterbury let me be your boy/wilson pickett..verve aint that true love/oscar toney jr...bell shes looking good/rodger collins..galaxy cant do without you/lee andrews...lost nite goodbye baby/bob brady...chariot love is the master/bob brady...chariot ive got to have your love/mill evans...constilation you sweet devil you/bobby joy...tangerine coming apart at the seams/andy butler...tangerine baby please come home/jj barnes...groovesville when love goes wrong/lou rawls...capitol talkin bout soul/marvin l sims ...revue demo i found joy/johnny moffett...caterbury how much pressure/rosco robinson..wand i need you baby/lewis clark...brent obviously as a playbox no boots
  5. classic northern/motown and once i loved to dance to it...sadly its a victim of its own sucsess and i dont get that buzz anymore, ive heard it sooooo much its one that normally makes me walk off the floor....except for when kenny plays THE copy of it which i know is stupid !!.... at the weston scooter rally last summer , drifting between two venues i actually heard this 6 times !...boring but then at hemsby scooter rally someone asked dean parish to sing it and he was reading the lyrics from a peice of paper with the WHOLE crowd singing a long...brilliant !
  6. 41....or is it 42...no its 41...i think ! .....memory is goin so not a good sign....but not sure thats anything to do with my age
  7. agree honky's was wicked but for me it has to be kents 'footstompers' bought it back in 84 when i was a 17 scooterboy (so maybe a bit of nostalgia) but thats been my desert island disc ever since...i have others with better individual tracks but overall thats the best for me... i cant ecape from you/like one/take away the pain stain/10 shades of blue/playin hide and seek/you should o held on/bring him back/you dont love me anymore(jc)/soul symphony/la rue/ill always need you(lb)/tears(nothin but tears)/craked up over you/youve been away/we go together/i surrender.... it does what it says on the sleeve !

think he might need more practice then...his follow up was wham !! hes also in the latest scootering mag saying he doesnt understand the whole ovo thing (even tho he has the cash, providing he hasnt er....'spent' it all away ) so i think the soul patrol will be busy at the hideaway ...
  9. top thread ...well remembered highs and lows of the year.... see....we can all be quite civil when we take our anoraks off ! have a great holiday everyone...
  10. sorry if you dont like levine productions but sydney barnes 'standing on solid ground' and also i believe venicia wilson 'this time im lovin you' ?...both tailor made and both great tunes imo

ofcourse motown is good...im sure every music lover in the world has at least one motown track they like, soulie or not !... but as with every label, they released their share of shit !...actually could start another thread, anyone know of a label that didnt release 'some' shit tunes ? as for stevie aswell as 'nothings too good' what about 'asking for trouble' quality northern imo

cherry picker !....as has already been said cant afford to buy tunes if i dont like them...way too many great tunes out there to worry about collecting labels/artists etc...

bad news and very sad too...a couple of years back both hmv and virgin (or whatever they call themselves now) had loads of indie tunes on 7 with pic discs and covers etc and i thought maybe it would make a comeback or at least survive but in bristol they no longer stock vinyl... have to use bands own websites/my space etc but 3.50 plus another for post ?.....even more will download til new vinyl will at last sadly be a thing of the past.... less manufacturing...less post....less jobs...and this is progress ?
  16. and your boss isnt up all night on soul forums !!
  17. oh and a couple of flyers ...one photocopied black and white half drawn half cut out from way back and one shiney double sided a4 weekender with too much info you get bored reading half way through !
  18. an original and its bootleg copy (dodgier the better) of any overplayed wigan classic... a copy of blues and soul or (old) black echoes... a kent compilation...probably footstompers maybe a beer towel ?? and half a dozen already mentioned !
  19. maybe he was in the band....if not hope the inks dry !! .... but seriously there have been a few tunes that you dont see for ages and then all of a sudden it seems theyre for sale everyday !!...although normally different sellers i suppose they could be from the same source...
  20. interplay...
  21. i suppose like most things in life its not black and white..... a soul snob is not a particular type of soulie into one particular way of life....but more a way of thinking .. its easiest to call someone who searches for undiscovered originals and doesnt want to dance to do i love you anymore a snob .....but surely only if he looks down on those who still love frank wilson and baggy trousers because.... there are those 'nostagia' loving soulies who look down on those looking for undiscovered different sounds....or modern...or rnb....and so on... so its not what soul you are into more how you see those who arent
  22. without the naff dancers approach there would be no scene and no one to play your exclusive tunes to! as far as changing views if the same tunes where played at every venue i have to disagree because you know what your going to get at different events and make an informed choice.... as ive said a D.J is judged on his set with most punters and not whether its ov! god we have lives to live, do you think we have sleepless nights about it? I think most rare soul collectors just need to admit they have a habit they cannot control and not try to justify it by slagging off anyone else who dare play a re-issue.
  23. ive got wanting you/april stevens in a brown card sleeve with a doodle of andy capp on it...why ?....was it you ? also one slagging IL off cant remember what it says now will try find it tonite...
