Acetates - Let's Take A Look
Gotham City acetate for "You're really getting to me" by Jonelle Allen. I believe the song is unreleased, but do let me know if that's incorrect. She made a name for herself on Broadway before crossing over to movies and TV. She appeared in a few films including Cotton comes to Harlem. TV credits include Police Woman, Love Boat, Hill Street Blues and Cagney & Lacey. Her biggest role was as the character Grace in the series, Dr Quinn, Medicine Woman!

Acetates - Let's Take A Look
Posted this up elsewhere recently, but it's worthy of this thread, methinks... A Bell Sound acetate of The Toys "I got a man" credited to lead singer Barbara Harris. Not released in the US on 45.

Looking Back - Billboard, Jet & Ebony At Google Books
No matter how many variables you throw in, one is an original item and the other is a digital copy.

Looking Back - Billboard, Jet & Ebony At Google Books
But that's the difference between having an original release on 45 and a digital version of it! I've happily bought single page ads from Billboard and Record World and will continue to do so if I find ones that are of interest. Just because Billboard is available online doesn't devalue the desirability certain aspects of the original publications. On the other hand, I've also taken screen grabs of news items and have no desire to buy a whole issue or just a page for only couple of column inches or the briefest of mentions of a specific artist or label.

Looking Back - Billboard, Jet & Ebony At Google Books
Have been dipping in and out of various resources in Google Books for a couple of years now and it always amazes me what turns up. I also like the fact that you can create and build your own 'library' of articles, etc, which is great for developing an archive of material relative to your own areas of interest.

Anyone Interested ?
Oh, yes! Got to get a copy of this. Email sent

Jimmy Delphs: "do You Know What I Mean"
If Jimmie does the internet he may find a whole heap of disciples here! No flippancy intended in my comment, but seriously, there are lots of people here who would love the opportunity to speak with and hear from 'Jimmy Delphs!' - more than you might appreciate!!

No Record Reviews Available?
Unlike Billboard who have made their archive available to the public, NME and Melody Maker want to turn a profit from theirs. This might be of some limited use... https://www.rocksbackpages.com/library.html

Jobettes Article
Not quite - look to Berry Gordy first. It was he who had the tiff with the Jobettes!
-
Jobettes Article
Chris Calloway/Something else... easy beat, smooth rocker loaded with teen commercialism. Sounds rather different to how it would be described today - that's if anyone could agree on the terms and genres that could be used!

Jobettes Article
That's why I specifically mentioned that tiffs were used by those "who require higher resolution images in a non-compressed format"!

Jobettes Article
Still used extensively by photographers and many others who require higher resolution images in a non-compressed format.

Don't Pity Me Sung In French (Joanie Sommers Song)
Now you come to mention it, I remember the thread. In fact, I'm certain that's what started me off looking for some of these tracks on 45s. Thanks!

Don't Pity Me Sung In French (Joanie Sommers Song)
Dunno, but apparently the lyrics were written by Christie herself. You could always ask her... www.christielaume.com

Don't Pity Me Sung In French (Joanie Sommers Song)
Another one I have a copy of - mentioned it in my list earlier. Not bad - except for where the singer screeches like a fire alarm! Aha - found it on YouTube....

Nothing worse than getting someone's name wrong in print. I hope the copy proofer had their wrists slapped good and hard!

Don't Pity Me Sung In French (Joanie Sommers Song)
Got a copy of that one not too long ago. Easy enough to find as well. Quite a few duplicates on that from the earlier list, so shouldn't take too long to flick through online. I can imagine a lot of these tunes working really well at a 60s/freakbeat nights. Nancy Holloway is another artist worth looking out for - soulful 60s vocals in a French style.

Don't Pity Me Sung In French (Joanie Sommers Song)
Well, courtesy of YouTube and that excellent website Ready Steady Girls, I've listened to all the tracks in the first list. Of that lot, I liked just eight! Two of note: * Charlotte Leslie - Les Filles c'est fait pour is a take on The Capitols We got a thing that's in the groove * Petula Clark - Donne-moi des fleurs is her own song Gotta tell the world but with French lyrics. The title translates as "Give me the flowers", so I guess that the French version has different words all together rather than being a translation from the English. I was hoping for more stuff along the lines of the clip above and below. On to the second list... https://youtu.be/MNUNcdVxYSU

Don't Pity Me Sung In French (Joanie Sommers Song)
There's going to be a lot of crap in that lot (I know, I've found some of it already), so what I'll do is go through the list bit by bit and listen to a few seconds on YouTube or iTunes where possible. That way I can sort out the dross from the interesting. Any that I really like I'll then look to find on 45. I appreciate the offer though. Thanks a lot.
