Twisted Wheel, For Sale?
I think we need to get a few scooter clubs involved lets have a gathering invite loads of scooters , get some posters made , sandwich boards and hold a protest , even dress up ! invite the press , make it as colourful as you can ! The press and TV will love the spectical and it will give the cause publicty , all publicity is good even if you think it doesn't portray todays scene its still PUBLICITY ! We can all congregate and have a few beers outside Monroes . Arrange to get it organized for the Easter Sunday session preceding the bank holiday Monday , weather should be good for a large gathering and I think many will come to show their support if we start talking about it NOW !

Banbury Internet Radio
Really enjoyed the show , I too missed a couple of hours at the start because I got myself absorbed involved into a KTF reunited facebook thread , found myself acting as an archivist ( if thats the right word) posting old pictures up most of the night , anyway when I realised Ted was on the show I tuned in and I was not dissapointed , he played a superb couple of hours of music to my ears.

What Is Beach Music?
Its shag music , really no joke thats what its called in the States type shag music in your search engine and you will see: I used to know a guy on KTF called Steve Martin and he was very much into it , he loved lots of General Johnson , Chairmen of the Board stuff. Beach music, also known as Carolina beach music, is a regional genre which developed from various musical styles of the forties, fifties and sixties. These styles ranged from big band swing instrumentals to the more raucous sounds of blues/jump blues, jazz, doo-wop, boogie, rhythm and blues, reggae, rockabilly and old-time rock and roll. Beach music is closely associated with the style of swing dance known as the shag, or the Carolina shag, which is also the official state dance of both North Carolina and South Carolina. Recordings with a 4/4 "blues shuffle" rhythmic structure and moderate-to-fast tempo are the most popular music for the shag, and the vast majority of the music in this genre fits that description.

Brazenose Street - The 1St Twisted Wheel
I showed the Bluenote page to Brian yesterday and he knew one of the names listed , a girl from Blackley he used ot go to school with:) I then mentioned that Abe Lincoln now Marks the spot , which he was quite shocked about. He said what they say about the gangster fashion is bob on , everyone wanted to look like George Raft with the long overcoats and hats even as far as a carnation in the lapel !,he also remembers drinking in the Waldorf at the time. He also knew the Time and the Place , Whitworth Street Wheel and Rowtrees Sound , Spring Gardens , the Oasis and the other nightclub mentioned but he said as far as he was aware no records were sold down the Brazenose Street Wheel , records were purchased from Ralfs records. He only went to Brazenose street a few times , but it made a lasting impression on him . He also went to Sheffield many times the King Mojo I think he said it was called. It was a great time to be in Manchester.

Brazenose Street - The 1St Twisted Wheel
Mind you the left wing coffee house looks far from a cafe ? Makes you wonder if it had anything to do with politics ... left wing ? I think if you were to think of a possible Bohemian type area in Manchester now , it would have to be tib street , Northern quarter . Its really developing into great area to explore . Beatin R is now placed at the end of it and Derek can be seen on saturdays hangin out the buntin in his cross over apron and scarf Also there are lots of interesting shops in a "retro" mould springing up ,along with old fashioned 40's tea rooms that show old films ! plus I was talking to one of the shop keepers and she mentioned they were going to have a big market area under cover there , a bit like camden , small shops within one big area . I also beleive there is a new Nighter up and coming on the very street.... could this place make its mark in the future ? Makes you want to give up the IT career doesn't it .. I could serve tea browse records and listen to soul all day quite easily perhaps a breakfast coffe bar is required ?

Just Heard Whitney Houston Died Tonight
It is very sad , not because we have lost a great talent . I feel sorry for her family and my sadness for her . My impression was that she struggled in life , she hadn't been happy for some time and one gets the impression that this may have been a release, like many others that have left us early before her. Being famous and having a great talent comes at a very heavy price, some arn't able to cope with it some are lucky to have a good support structure in their chosen partner , she has never been happy since her split with Bobby it made her very fragile and she had leant on alcohol and perscribed drugs to get her through the dark days. This may well have been acidental but you can't help but think the sadness before has had a hand in the situation.

How Vinyl Is Made
Brilliant loved watching it . I am sure that Werner used a Diamond to cut the records at thier house at Tufnell Park i remember them saying that it was a very large cost to them . I watched him carve a record for me ,whilst munching on tea and biscuits , it was facinating to watch. Thanks for sharing this

Twisted Wheel, For Sale?
Thank you so much for putting the e-mail address up Irish spinner . I have sent my e-mail to them this morning , lets hope many follow as a mark of respect for the cultural heritage of what this building has meant to many and what it may mean to future visitors to one of the most soulful cities in the world. Lets hope and we make an impression thats is one for all and all for one. PS I didn't use the letter I made it personal , post the request on facebook and get people around the WORLD that you know to send them an e-mail . I also asked him to read the book Central 1179 , which might give him some indication as to why people CARE . If anyone has a spare copy , please offer to send it to him , he needs to see he has an added attraction that other hotels in the city do not have.

Hi Antony You being from Antwerp ...you might like R&B ?, as many do over there , excuse my ignorance if not . I have got shit loads of R&B a whole box which I would swap your FS if you are interested plus it would come to the best of homes and I would polish and smile at it every day and it would save me spending all that money so I could feed my 8 starving children. Come on folks you can't blame me for trying..... Well it worked to get me Larry Laster from that lovely American chap

Twisted Wheel, For Sale?
I find it really sad that people on here think its a big joke , lets pour petrol on the fire and watch it burn .... where is your respect for those that were doing it when you was still at primary school or maybe not even out of nappies. My sadness is for those people that stil love the place , they are losing something that feels very special to them , yes you can move the sounds to another location , but its still a sadness for them very much like losing your first love for many. You could at least show some compassion for that alone. They made the faith .... you keep it so have some respect !

Twisted Wheel, For Sale?
For the doubters , take a trip down there on Sunday at least once before you pass judgement , the atmosphere is something else , many people you see there you see nowhere else or maybe they are the ORIGINALS out to party to sounds you hear nowhere else .. the roots the sound of STAX which is forgotten in many other places . Believe it or not I have heard stuff down there that I didn't know existed ... I shall be chippin away at the piece of wheel on Sunday before its lost forever.

The Esquires - (Artist Of The Week)
Lovely Derek I have it on British , one of the records I bought off Brian when we parted a few years back at 50 bloody quid , but since that I have become a great fan of the Esquires , love their version of "Woman" and I do currently like to play State Fair , which I believe has a cracking flip side ( Thanks Terry Fin ) which I still have not played. Along with You got the Power ... cheap as chips and brilliant . Yes one of my fave artists

Grey Imprint On Evil Bay
I must confess I don't really like the original demo version , it sounds more like Jazz to my ears .... The grey Imprint is pure soul to my ears ... but again thats a matter of opinion and I am just a pleb what would I know no doubt there are many that prefer the writers version.

Grey Imprint On Evil Bay
Oh thanks for this I really would love to read it again , can you still get copies from Howard ? Is there a contact e-mail ? I remember getting Clive to play it on the radio , It was so nice to hear it on the airwaves and to get information on them . I suppose I felt good about giving them a little recognition be it 30 years too late be it on Clives show. I will never forget thow I felt when I first held a copy at Whitby (Tim Browns sales) ... only a collector would understand that feeling I loved the sound then and I still love it now , I guess its a matter of taste , we can't all like the same things can we ? Thats what makes us all individuals . I just know that sound was special to me and when I hear it well it sends shivers up my spine , just like pookie Hudson does for others lol where as Pookie makes me cringe . Nev you have to allow Peggy some slack , he likes to throw himself frantically around a room .... this sound is for the slower appetite he will get there one day ...we all do

Grey Imprint On Evil Bay
If anyone should find the article written in soul up north can you please send me a copy - I wrote the article when I was hooked by the tune I had to find out more about it and spoke to many on the net about it ( Soulful detroit , The rare soul forum were two ref points ) , I lost my copy when I moved up North . The tale tracks my findings/research when I was trying to find out about the members in the band . The lead singer was called Victor and I was told he was in the airforce , did the singing thing on the side. I would love to read it again . The record is a masterpiece of soul history the lyrics are so emotive ... if it grabs you it grabs you BIG time , I love the fact the other side is called the other side
