That's spooky. I was thinking about him the other day (as you do!). I was also thinking, has Robert Banks ever been involved in a bad record, or H.B. Barnum or Jerry Ragavoy? or Chips Moman, the list is (almost) endless. Isn't it? Point is, he's a trucker now OK, but I wonder what todays automated production techniques would make of such an unparalled genius like him. Does he know that we know?

The two biggest tunes in Club Spyro at the 'mo are Johnny Daye "Good time" on Jomada and "First impressions" High Inergy on Gordy. Nice little numbers from either side of the spectrum there. If I get chance on Sat I'll post MP3's.

Who's "K R" and isn't bootlegging, i.e. stealing someone elses work illegal? I think we should be told, name and shame I say, stop hiding behind initials if you know. The view from the moral high ground is just luvverley!

quote name='garethx' date='May 4 2006, 09:49 AM' post='287713'] This Bobby Bennett is a former Famous Flame, apparently. He had a mighty voice and made a handful of singles in Philadelphia in the sixties and early seventies with releases on V-Tone, Junior, Phil LA of Soul and Philadelphia International among others. All of these are really good soul records.

I know its a bit late and a bit obvious ..... but! Does the Bobby Taylor have "Blackmail" on the flip? If it does try-it! I love that tune

...... mine has!!! Stunning and not expensive, so, like the man says .......

Ken, in a Republican world she would, just in a smaller house and she'd have to wait for a bloody hip replacement! AND, she could put her own bets on instead of sending a lackey down to the bookies AND her inbread dimwit two-bagger grabbing first son could get a proper job. I like it better when we don't fight! For the record (hey hey, a pun!), I'd like to see a publicly owned and publicly accountable Royal Mail, preferably not run(down!) by an ex-barrow boy, Leeds United director who'll p**s off when his knighthood turns up. I'm proud of RM, started collecting again (aaarggh, a returing soulie!) in '98, NEVER lost an item from any country (except Belgium, of course, where the idea is you pay, they thieve - private postal service, I believe) by the hand of my colleagues. I'm with them!
-
I'm sorry Ken, your point is? (try replying with less vitriol and more sense and just a tad less bollox, you'll find people can understand what you're on about). PS, What's this "Queen outa' the way" business? Be careful Ken, MI5 are probably monitoring web traffic as we type!

DT, in another pathetic attempt at getting my numbers up, I've latched onto another of your posts! Anyhoo, you're my kind of poster, let it all kick off, a load of lower middle class brits posturing about clenched fists, black panthers, angela davis, tuskegee 626 et al, a yank turns up, embarrases everybody by getting us to realise that, at the time we thought we were being cool and together and awfully hip, when in fact it turns out we were being a bit twatty. Still, we all know better now ......... don't we? Chipped cup ...... two sugars!

NS101, get real pal. I have worked for the Royal Mail for 28 years (it was the GPO when I started) and "competition" as you call it won't work. Check it out, who are the competition and who are they likely to employ? Yup, they pay peanuts and they'll get monkeys, in some cases incompetent and maybe thieving monkeys. The ONLY thing that competetition WILL bring is less work for RM from BIG BUSINESS mailers, not ordinary Joes like us, that's where 95% of RM's business is NOW, TODAY. What is competition gonna bring to SME's like most of our record dealing friends, I'll save your breath, BUGGER ALL! When competition is creating a market that is split between different carriers, what will happen, less employment in RM, less depots to collect your mail from, less PO Counters to take your mail to, watcha gonna do? Support the RM now not later when your choices will be what's left of us, DeutschPost, TNT, etc. Last point, take a look at the majority of the thread, people like the postie, they trust the postie, they appreciate the "extra mile" (see, I know all the management bulls**t) that these people go to, to look after people. The reason these people do it? PRIDE! Competition will force RM to shrink back and let these people go, replaced with god knows what or who. Finally, I'll say it's about time this site got a bit more politicised and begun to fight the power. Socialist Soul take a stand!!!! Spyro out!!!

Lawdy dawdy, that is crap isn't it! I thought the Floorshakers was bad, but bloody hell ..........
-
Ooops arsed it up didn't I? Any road up, about 10 minutes ago when I got my copy out. Bought it about 3 or 4 years ago when nobody wanted a copy for some obscure reason. Yours Smugly

Kenny, is that really you? I've got your "Would you believe" on Columbia as well. I think it's the dogs bollocks regardless of price/value. Thanks ever so much for recording it and sharing your talent with us. Cheers mate! Oh, by the way ..... Jack Montgomery "Don't turn your back on me" .... it's going in the box with me!
-
Isn't that the whole point? Which Jnr McCants? They both (?) sound "priceless" to me. The phrase "sounds like a £nnnnn rarity to me" or similar is dealer-speak for "don't be put off by the cheap price, I've got a box load (or one sad last copy) to shift. TRUE ART HAS NO MONETARY VALUE WORTH NOTING.

Nice one BFL. That's you and me mightily bollocked for slagging off our poorer cousins from the kack part of town, undercover of a discussion on the murky goings on with a load of longhairs and fatblokes in t'Casino. Still, Northern Soul eh? It's a giggle innit. Back to life, back to reality.

second hand bolt action Italian rifles, books, magic bullets, you name it ...... oh, and Marmite! BTW, awful lot of Wednesday fans on here innit?

This has GOT to be made into a film!!! I was getting quite excited (well as excited as anyone pushing 50 is allowed to get) towards the end. Unassailable stuff!!! Encore! Death to Scammers!

Jim, fret not buddy. This little gem turns up regularly on t'Bay, I got mine last year, not a mint copy (??????) but eminently playable/enjoyable and less than 20 sovs inc P + P from the USA. Get a search going and cross everything.

Ooops! I'm doing it now ..... Bozaboy here (deliberately driving up his message numbers!!!)

Gene, ditto! Also had them from NatWest and Barclays ...... and I don't bank with them either!!!! Certainly looks like some sods on the make! Anyone heard of this one though? They didn't get me, but we have had people where I work who have been "stung" by this. Story goes ..... A colleague was called on Wednesday by "VISA" and her partner was called on Thursday by "MasterCard". It worked like this: Person calling says, "This is Carl Patterson (any name) and I'm calling from the Security and Fraud department at VISA. My Badge number is 12460. Your card has been flagged for an unusual purchase pattern, and I'm calling to verify. This would be on your VISA card. Did you purchase an Anti-Telemarketing Device / any expensive item for £497.99 from a marketing company based in Anywhere?" When you say "No". The caller continues with, "Then we will be issuing a credit to your account. This is a company we have been watching and the charges range from £297 to £497, just under the £500 purchase pattern that flags most cards. Before your next statement, the credit will be sent to(gives you your address), is that correct?" You say, "Yes". The caller continues . . . "I will be starting a fraud investigation. If you have any questions, you should call the 0800 number listed on your card and ask for Security. You will need to refer to this Control #". Then gives you a 6 digit number. "Do you need me to read it again?" Caller then says he "needs to verify you are in possession of your card. Turn the card over. There are 7 numbers; the first 4 are 1234 whatever, the next 3 are the security numbers that verify you are in possession of the card. These are the numbers you use to make internet purchases, to prove you have the card. Read me the 3 numbers." Then he says "That is correct. I just needed to verify that the card has not been lost or stolen, and that you still have your card. Do you have any other questions? Don't hesitate to call back if you do." You actually say very little, and they never ask for or tell you the card number. But after we were called on Wednesday, we called back within 20 minutes to ask a question. Are we glad we did! The REAL VISA security department told us it was a scam and in the last 15 minutes a new purchase of £497.99 WAS put on our card. Long story made short, we made a real fraud report and closed the VISA card and they are issuing a new number. What the scam wants is the 3-digit number and once the charge goes through, they keep charging every few days. By the time you get your statement, you think the credit is coming, and then it's harder to actually file a fraud report. Ba**a*r*s !!!

Okey-dokey, here goes with what's currently being played to a packed record room (well, me and my 15 month old son anyway) at the "legendary" Maison de Soul in the sunny People's Democratic Republic of Bolsover, god's country, North East Derbyshire. Just be for real - Johhny Moore (Jadan) - come on, the guy never cut a bad tune in his life! wouldn't know how to! Little wooden soldier - Little Wooden Soul-diers (Pam-O) - an Ebay bargain! Yum yum tree - Bobby Bland (Duke) - see comments re: Johnny Moore. Merry go round - Soul Children (Epic) - heard it? got it? I envy you hearing this for the first time - too common to become a spin? who knows/cares? If I can't fly - Honey Cone (Hotwax) - Sam's got a copy apparently - is this being played out?

Let's all have a guess at where that "turns up" !
