  1. Northern Soul/soul discovered me in 2008. I trudged my way through a collection of 50,000 45s of all genres from Texas (unpicked). The first record out of the lot that really hit me was The Demures' Raining Teardrops. Before I had even gone to a local do, I made the trip to SoulTrip Chicago 2009. I had table space reserved at the record show but was fortunate enough to have a few days to take it all in (but sadly couldn't stay the entire time, something I wish I could have done today). It was one of the most amazing experiences of my life. After I got back home afterward, one of my friends asked how it was. I told him it was amazing. Amazing music, amazing people, incredible experiences. I still wasn't collecting many soul 45s that year until August 2009, when I went to a record fair in Des Moines, Iowa of all places and found someone I know offloading stacks of 60s/70s mint 45s he'd been storing since the 70s for $1 each. I ended up walking out of there with 300+ 45s, and the soul 45 collecting obsession began. When I heard about SoulTrip 2011 Orlando, I knew I had to go. I brought my better half and had an amazing time. Cheers.
  2. I keep thinking how much better these would sound minus the drum machines and fake synths.
  3. Years ago, I had the same situation happen. Two orders got mixed up. Both people contacted me. The first person offered to send the 2nd person their right records. The 2nd person berated me for making the mistake and said she'd send the first person the right record. 1st person never got the record (so I had to refund), and the 2nd person kept the record sent in error. Lovely.
  4. I'm a total sucker when it comes to Motown promos. Even if I have a stock copy and I have a chance to buy a M- promo (or VG+) and it's cheap enough, I'll go for it.
  5. According to the information I've read online and on Facebook, about 20 people got in there to dig, but the first guy really hit it big. I was guessing it was in France?
  6. Little Eva signed photo sold. Mary Wells signed LP available.
  7. I just got the promo 2 weeks ago!
  8. Haven't heard from anyone, but needing to shift these to pay a few household bills. Mary Wells reduced to $100, $75 for Little Eva photo.
  9. Reduced to $150 for the Mary Wells and $100 for the Little Eva. I am more than willing to listen to offers as well.
  10. Anyone ever been to Bill's Records in Dallas? None of the records have prices. You have to ask him what he wants for each one. The price he says is the only price. No negotiation. Two hours of browsing was too much.
  11. Hi Everyone, I have a Pickwick U.S. LP in great condition from Mary Wells that is autographed. It was obtained from a chap that owned a black-owned record store and had a radio show in the late 70s/80s in the midwest. I'm asking $200 OBO. I also have a Little Eva signed photograph that was obtained from someone who used to go to concerts back in the day at the nearby casino in Minnesota and got this signed. Lovely signature. I'm asking $150 for this OBO. Please get in touch if you're interested. Cheers.
  12. Someone on a Facebook group I'm a member of posted it. It was 1000% percent better than I would have expected!
  13. I still have mine, but I haven't used it in years, but I would never part with it. I just found the remote for it in a box downstairs and two boxes of minidiscs. I bought one of the early Sony ones that has an optical in and out about the same time I bought a Marantz pro CD recorder. Both still work well!
  14. I'd like to find a U.S. promo in M- condition. Anyone have one they'd sell?
  15. Guitar Center is where i purchased both my Numark USB turntable and my Numark portable. Those Crosley turntables are garbage and have poor needles. However, I have heard the Dansette model is good, as they use an Audio Technica good cartridge.
  16. I also bring the Numark PT-01. I've had the same one since 2007 and upgraded the needle to a diamond needle. I have brought it many times on trips in my suitcase, etc. It runs on 6 D batteries, and I use it a lot at home and in my travels and only change batteries a couple of times a year. I've definitely gotten my money's worth out of it. I much prefer to use the headphones when out and about, as the speaker isn't very loud, but it works well sitting next to me at home.
  17. I'm really bummed to hear the Motown shop closed. I'm glad I was able to visit it when I changed planes in Detroit in 2008.
  18. I'd love to go to this!
  19. I just bought a mint Decca stock copy of this in the States yesterday on 45, so it most definitely exists. It's a good 'un!
  20. Peter, I would consider it. Pm me and we can chat.
  21. I just did a trade with someone yesterday and bagged a few 45s: Willie Mitchell/Up Hard (picture sleeve promo!) 22. Chris, That is one tasty item!
  23. For LPs, I use my VPI record cleaning machine with a bottle of liquid I bought when I bought the 45 RPM kit for it. I put it a smaller amount of the fluid into a water bottle and haven't filled it and have plenty of fluid. For 45s, I have a container of water that I add washing-up liquid into. I have soft car-cleaning cloths. I have one that I put into the water and squeeze off the excess and have one to dry off the water. They really get into the grooves and don't leave behind anything, and I just throw them in the washing machine after they're dirty. For any labels on 45s, I've tried UnDu, which is a glue used for scrapbooking. It didn't work as well as I would have liked, so I stuck it back on the shelf.
  24. @Pete, I concur. I like the Timebox version much better. I am currently sitting on (and they're for sale), a white label Philips promo and blue label stock 45 of the Four Seasons' version, and I haven't been excited enough about it to put it into one of my "keep" boxes.
