Poll: DJ Playlist - Worthwhile?
Hey all, thanks for the comments, I posted a playlist for last Saturday.
-
my playlist, Emerald City Soul Club, Seattle, WA Aug 12
My playlist from last Saturday's Emerald City Soul Club in Seattle, WA, USA. The first few records were early doors (Excuses 'filled the floor' with a lot of early arrivers) and the rest from two sets. Perfections was the last record I played, and the last record for the night at the club, it seems a little different than the released version). All US originals other than the Action (orginal UK Parlophone). We had been referencing the Masqueraders appearance on "Americas Got Talent" which is why I played three of theirs (not that I needed any prompting). Not the best effort I've made but at least I kept the crowd dancing for the last set of the evening. We are having our weekender in November, second weekend, with a lot of top US DJs + some special guests from UK and Europe. Check Facebook for more details. Excuses - Trick Bag Frankie and Damons - Man From Soul Soulmasters - I'll Be Waiting Here Bob Collins - Inventory on Heartaches Wendy Rene - Bar B Q Chance and Tony - Pretty Baby Little Bob - I Got Loaded Action - I'll Keep Holding On Jay and Techniques - Dancin Mood Masqueraders - Do You Love Me Baby Eddie Holland - Leaving Here Connie Austin - She Made a Mistake Gwen Owens - Just Say You're Wanted Frankie Beverly - Because of My Heart Silhouettes - Not Me Baby Willie Hutch - Love Runs Out Masqueraders - I Got The Power James Wesley Smith - Talkin Bout Women Purple Mundi - Stop Hurting Me Yum Yums - Gonna Be a Big Thing Freddie Chavez - They'll Never Know Why Isonics - Sugar Lil Lavair and Fabulous Jades - I'd Be So Happy Tony Galla - In Love Jades - I'm Where Its At Billy Preston - The Girls Got It Jimmy Bo Horne - Hey There Jim Masqueraders - How Perfections - No Man Can Love You (Virtue acetate)

sisters three- cu- keep off no trespassing
These are the same Sisters 3/Three who were on Early Bird and I think they had another record or two. The label is part of the Baby Luv operation (Inticers, Othello Robinson). I have the record, it's rarer than the Inticers, but lacks the legendary status. I've talked to a few Bay Area collectors and they either didn't even know it, or said it was a tough one.

Poll: DJ Playlist - Worthwhile?
I would like to see more playlists from the US, as someone who lives there and plays at a successful monthly event, but it's pretty apparent that US representation on Soul Source is pretty small, and rather than have me be the only one posting lists, I don't bother. I did post a playlist once on one the FB groups. It didn't seem to get any attention, so that leads me to further conclude that the Soul Source and FB groups are either not interested - or for whatever reason - discouraging - playlists from the US.

J Manship Auction Results 24/5/2017
I don't pretend to be a heavy dealer in soul records but I do try to keep on top of the market, as well as collect on my own, living in the US. Over the past 6 months, give or take, I am surprised at the number of standard, generally available soul records - from someone living in the US -that are getting auctioned by Manship and the other continuously active soul websites. Mary Wells and James Carr for two examples here. These are not rare by any measurement, nor do they have any kind of weird DJ frenzy price hikes (like "Salvation") happening. I'm sure the reason must be that these sites are not getting the heavy records I would have figured to be the typical auction records (Shrine 45s, etc) and in order to keep running consistent auctions, have to offer something. For me, the 'wow' factor is really dying out quickly and I find myself paying less and less attention and more attention to keeping up with stuff for sale here directly (and on Facebook).

WHAT IS THE CURRENT TREND IN COLLECTING RARE SOUL?
Not that it is of relevance to me here in the US, but I would say that more garage type records (Aquamen, Strangeloves) that are not soul records at all will be brought into the DJ scenes in the UK and Europe. Get ready for more guitars.....

Paul Griffin "here I Come" On Canadian Reo. Mystery Record
Hello Howard, if you're still around here, could you tell me about the Betty Brewton record on Sue? You and Mel wrote both sides "Heavy Heavy Loving" and "Pershing Square". Was she from Toledo as well? The songs were copyrighted in 1968. I will also send you a message, thanks!
-
What was the cheapest record you regularly DJ'd with in 2016?
yeah, I play this in my DJ sets in the US, I'll also play Sam and Dave - I Thank You, Otis Redding - Satisfaction and Demonstration, all crowd pleasers and not done to death like other songs by those artists.

Jimmy Church - Thinking about the good times
