John Legend and the Roots - Wake Up

John Legend has teamed up with The Roots to push out a covers album with a difference - its actually quite interesting and enjoyable.

The album is made up of their takes on "socially/politically conscious Soul classics from the sixties and seventies".

As can see by the track listing below its quite a varied selection and is billed as being inspired by the recent US presidential elections.

Highlights from here being the versions of Baby Hueys "Hard Times", the take of "Compared To What " and the title track

Also includes one original track - Shine

Good stuff Mike and of interest to many on here I'm sure............I nearly played one of the covers on my latest Starpoint Radio show, but found "Shine" at the end of the CD as the only original song on the album and went with that.............those interested to hear it can catch it on my podcast, amongst other goodies, here:

Thanks, Mike. John Legend and The Roots are personal faves. This sure looks like a must have.

BTW, I'm glad none of the tunes are on my wants list. I'd imagine originals might go up in price after this...

What????:D

...I said - and I quote - 'John Legend's not much of a singer' , Couldn't have made myself any clearer really.

His modest vocal abilities would never have cut it in the company of those whose songs he's reinpterpreting for this project.

And I'm basing that assesment on having seen him live, as well as having heard most if not all of his records.
