Culcheth The Spirit Of Lowton Hot

Lots going on over, what seemed to be one of the busiest weekends on the scene for a long time , co-insiding with the Wigan Casino Anniversary celebrations among other things, so BIG thanks to everyone who made CULCHETH their venue of choice on Friday. We had moved to the third Friday due to a double booking at the venue but we are now back to SECOND FRIDAY’s for the rest of the year.

The ‘new-look’ main room layout seemed to work well, making the room look even more like the old LOWTON main room than it did before. Quite a few new faces in on Friday, which is always good, and everyone I spoke to said they’d had had a great night. For me it was musically enjoyable, with all the DJ’s pulling some cracking tunes out of their boxes to entertain the faithful. Les Harrison started things off in the main (Northern) room at 8pm and the tunes kept coming right through to Simon Ingham rounded off proceedings in style at 1am.

Bob Hinsley followed with the likes of Rudy Love Suffering Wrath, Johnny Bartell If This Isn’t Love, Benjamin and The Right Direction Light of my Life, Mamselles Open Up Your Heart and Donna Colman Your Love’s Too Strong. Bob handed over to Robbo, who played a cracking set aimed squarely at the dancefloor but forgot to write owt down, words had LOL. Then main man Kev Murphy took to the decks and treated us to some Wigan monsters, (well, it was the Anniversary weekend) with The Delites Lover, Professionals That’s Why I Love You, Lester Tipton This Won’t Change, Damon Fox Packing Up, Herman Hitson Love Slipped Through My Fingers, quality! Simon Ingham ronded off the night with selections by Tommy Ridgely My Love is Getting Stronger, J J Barnes Gambrelles You Better Move Charmaines Guilty and The Jackson Brothers I’ve Gotta Hear it from You, Excelente!

Our new Modern Room, under the direction of Jem Booth and John Townend from Lancashire’s SOUL ON THE EDGE events, was buzzing. John and Jem were joined by Modern ‘maestro’ Chris Box and between them served up a mix of 70’s 80’ through to new release Soul with a capital ‘S’ and ended with a full dancefloor at 1am, looks like monthly modern is back on the goin’ out, out radar!

We are back to the regular second Friday of the month for the next night on October 12th and the second Friday from then on, so make it a date!
