So, after the ‘Spring Break’ CULCHETH SOUL NIGHTS are back to the first Saturday of the month for 2024 from SATURDAY MAY 4th

With two rooms of top quality soul, Rare and underplayed 60’s and 70’s in the main room and Modern Soul in room two, there’s something for everyone!

Alongside this months’ resident DJ’s KEV MURPHY, SIMON INGHAM and BAZ MALEEDY, our special main room guests for May are two guys that hail from the North West and who never fail to deliver; Phil Wainwright and Alex Jones.

With around four decades of dedication to the Soul Scene, Phil and Alex both know how to delight the dance floor, double decking, they are one Dynamic Duo. Both have been collecting and dj’ing from their mid to late teens, both being regular Dj’s at Westhoughton Cricket Club and the ‘infamous’ Congleton All-Niters back in the 9t’s, plus so many other venues up and down the UK over the years

Pioneering great records, with a good few cover ups and discoveries under their belts these lads still continue to collect and DJ to this very day, bringing to the dance floor sounds of great soul music that you wouldn’t hear from anyone else. If you know Phil and Alex then you’ll know what these guys are all about, if you don’t, then prepare yourself for a treat and a set of education to those lug holes you’ll never forget…

Join us on SATURDAY MAY 4th for a Great Soul Night Out!...

After returning from one of his US trips, I remember Alex playing this at a midweek soul night at Deane Conservative Club, Bolton.

Because he didn't have time to cover it up properly, he strategically placed bits of beer mat over the label.

I'm pretty sure he was the first to ever play this?

As well as Soul Brothers Inc, Deane Coni club was the first place I heard Ralph Graham played as well, I know quite a few of us bought a copy of it there.

I think Bernard still has his copy and he'll be at Culcheth for this one.  He likes a drink so you'll have to work on him a bit. 6 pints should do it😁

You're right Si, you're namesake Eddie Foster and his big tune on IN records at the time prompted me to buy it blind. Since then I've bought loads deaf.🫢 I've let Robbo have my deaf purchases.😂

So back to the first Saturday of the month, with the next Modern Soul session at CULCHETH on Bank Holiday Saturday May 4th.  The ‘Do Within a Do’ the Modern nights at CULCHETH would stand on its own as a top-quality Modern night in any venue but here you have the extra element of a brilliant Northern room to visit if you want to.

The night even has its own name, So Soulful Saturday’s a natural extension of Steve Plumbs’ much loved, So Soulful 70’s nights in Leyland, So Soulful Saturdays, is just that with the opportunity for the DJ’s to play out of the 70’s and into other decades and feature more great Modern Soul from the 80’s 90’s right up to todays’ latest releases.

Join us early doors and hear all the latest new release vinyl 45’s and advance tracks due for release as PETE RATCLIFFE showcases this popular feature. Check out quality selections from Cassinellis and Newton Cricket Club, resident BILL WILDMAN as he digs into the crates and goes album tracking with Willie Hutch, Bobby Womack, Chapter8, Gloria Scott, Gwen McRea and many more… NICK McKINNON from Altringham’s ‘Can You Dig It’ team and the super RUSTIC Sunday sessions will bring you 80’s boogie, Parkers two-step classics and a selection of rare modern steppers, CHARLIE SMITH brings the rarest of the Modern rare to the party, with everything from Hamilton Movement to  Fluorescent Smogg to Major Williams, all of which goes down a storm. Last, but definitely not least is our main man STEVE PLUMB, just back from closing (in a good way) the final SOUL ESSENCE, Steve always pulls superb Modern tracks out of the hat to the delight of the CULCHETH ‘Modernistas’ So, whether it’s Luther or Love Unlimited, if you like ‘Modern’, you’ll love So Soulful Saturday’s, first Saturday of the month at CULCHETH…
