run out groove 19 Posted September 27, 2018 Thanks for that great picture Sav, evoked some good memories. Who can forget him!! Curly...everyone that visited the Hollingwood through the 90ts will remember CURLY. Spoke to Dave Manlove about him cos' i couldn't remember or more likely didn't even know his proper name..well it's Harold Francis and Dave said he was so reliable on the door and never let him down. He joined Dave before the Hollingwood started, doing the door at the Fishpond Matlock, YMCA at Chesterfield when Dave did that and finally at the Hollingwood for about 10 years. Everybody who remembers Curly must remember him with some affection...no one ever got past him without paying, a quite formidable man with a good sense of humour who enjoyed obviously the company of people half his age (he must have been in his 70ts maybe early 80ts at that time) and also had connection with our music which he sometimes displayed by joining the dancefloor to massive appreciation from the people there at the time. Bless you Mr. Francis and thank you for making fond memories.....CURLY, CURLY CURLY!!! Link to comment

run out groove 19 Posted October 3, 2018 Again thanks for the photos....yeah back then in 97 the scene wasn't swamped like it is today with soul nights in almost every town and city around the country. The people around then had been around the scene for a long time and mostly followed it right through from the early days with others just keeping there toe in the water by visiting places like the Hollingwood who held monthly soul nights. The DJs then were still the ones that had the records which meant you had to go to hear our music, not like today when you can click a button and hear the rarest of the rare to download onto your itunes/spotify account...yes still had to travel around to find the music. Names on that flyer from 20 years ago are still gladly around..Rob Wigley moved on from the Hollingwood to end up help run various big weekenders PRESTATYN from it's birth to the brilliant weekenders at BRID and SCARBOROUGH and is hugely respected on the scene. Chalky, he's still at it mainly on Soulsource where he provides a fountain of knowledge to all. Dave still continues and great to see providing another regular soul night at Hasland.....oh and SOUL SAM still moving boundaries to keep our music moving forward... there are so many that guested here at the Hollingwood and provided us with some great music, ground breaking at times and i believe that's why some people have a great affection for it....just hope we can do the little place some justice. JUST DANCE it makes you happy!!!!! Link to comment
