A real up for it crowd of regulars as well as travellers from all over the country make this night just something a little bit special. SS70 or So Soulful Seventies to give it it's full title explores the nooks and crannies of the decade that has given us so much wonderful music as well as a great selection of favourites from this golden era. You'll hear music from favourites like Oscar Perry, Lamont Dozier, Mighty Clouds of Joy, the Impressions, Linda Clifford, Teddy Pendergrass, the Pretenders, Willie Hutch and literally hundreds mor... Steve Plumb 395 Posted December 29, 2019 Wow, that was a bit good! The 53rd and final So Soulful 70's of the decade and although we have had loads and loads of great nights in the last 8 1/2 years, this was one of the very best. Our three guests were hand-chosen because they have been here since day one and all know the crack and all have an ability to play perfect records at the right time. The doors opened at 8pm and by 5 past, there were hardly any seats left! After two 'back of the box' sets from Plumby & Eddy, our first guest Griff played a blinding set which was perfect for the occasion. Quality 70's all the way which got the dance floor up and running and which stayed packed for the rest of the night. Another two mini-sets from Eddy & Plumby kept things ticking over, followed by our second guest Derek Smith who played some wonderful tunes including a few of his customary left-field selections and once again did the business. Big bad Barry Maleady entered the fray as our third guest of the evening and once again nailed it with some brilliant selections. Eddy & Plumby finished the night as always, double-decking and the night finished at 1am with the dance floor still solid and no one wanting to leave! The sound-system was once again faultless, Smithy got everyone in with little or no fuss, (including getting the CD's out) and the bar staff kept the beer flowing with never a queue. The clientel were a mix of battle-hardened SS70's regulars who come from local, far and wide, occasional SS70's attendees and a few newbies but what a great crowd who all appreciate great music and also know how to have a great time. Thanks to everyone for a superb night. Next one is Saturday 14th March 2020, followed by the 9th Annivesary on Saturday 30th May Cheers Steve x Link to comment
