About The Event

The Ashton Ukrainian club has gone from strength to strength following the re-launch in 2021 and a move to Saturday night. For 2025 we're looking once again to continue delivery quality rare and underplayed soul from the residents and ever growing list of outstanding guests.

Speaking of ‘Rare & Underplayed Soul’ we use that phrase to capture what Ashton tries to deliver musically, which is worth expanding upon.

Mainly it's an attempt to move away from the standard music policy strap lines we’re all so used to seeing like; Northern, 60s & 70s, Crossover, Modern, across the board etc. etc. whilst genuinely trying to capture an ethos. The words ‘rare’ and ‘underplayed’ are intended to apply both in their own right and together, it certainly isn't supposed to be limited rare records that are also underplayed……we should have added quality in there too LOL.

In a nutshell you will hear all three combinations of the phrase on any given night at the Ukrainian Club; ‘Rare’ (but not for rarities sake) ‘Underplayed’ (but not because they’re not good enough) and of course ‘Rare & Underplayed’ but, all with one eye on the dancefloor.

We don’t have a music ‘policy’, all our residents & guests are free to express themselves as they wish, which we believe adds to the magic. So simply expect a great night of quality soul music if you ever get the chance to join us at our friendly little club.

Simon "The Fixer" Ingham always delivers a varied and interesting set. A classic from the latter days at The Casino and still creates a stir on the dancefloor!!

Saturday September 20th Ashton Ukrainian Club, presents a night of Rare and Underplayed Soul from the 60s/70s with that Old School Soul Club Vibe, from the halcyon days, with memories of iconic venues like Bretby, Albrighton, Lowton, Tony's, Burnley and so many more!!!

Sound like your thing? For a sample of classy selections from our resident and Guest DJs please click on the link at the end of the post and head over to our Soul-Source event page thread !!

Chris Anderton will be dipping into some of the big tunes from the aforementioned Clubs and of course a DAB of Crossover/70s Soul!!

Michael Wilks "WILXY" delivered a real classy set last time out, more of the same sir!!

Providing the energy early doors, we look forward to Stu Cheetham with a set heavily influenced from his time behind the decks at Burnley and a regular Niter Attendee at the much missed Tony's. Soul with attitude for the dancers, just how we like it.

If you were at the recent Culcheth Dayer you'll be aware of the quality that Si Ingham brings to the occasion. He was the guiding light for the much missed Kenwood Suite at The Bury Town Hall Niters, those sessions still talked about in glowing terms!!

Chris Churm and Phil Dunn complete another classy line up, as promised we have some more quality Guests booked for the coming months, more news of which, as we near the dates!!

So Five and a Half hours of quality Soul Music is waiting for you and just £6 admission pay on the door. The night runs 7pm-00.30

Looking forward to welcoming our regular Ashton Brethren and our ever growing list of first time attendees !!

Stu forget The World Dancing Contests, if you can't dance like Billy Preston then what's the point entering the competition. I hope somebody told Ray Charles how great Billy was doing the soft shoe shuffle.

I've posted that video a couple of times over the years mate and it always brings a smile to my face. To be honest I needed a different image in my head than that pair of hairy b******s you'd posted.😆

Stu, I remember in the 90's the original Manifesto magazine ran a spoof ad for Talcy Turnups, which was a pair of baggy trousers that spread out talcum powder from, can you guess where, when you did your spins/moves. Dennis ran the ads for quite a few editions.😃

Stu the answer is from your turnups.thumbsup
