Ken Boothe "Set Me Free". Awesome version of The Supremes, "You Keep Me Hanging On" which totally transcends its source material.

My favourite Motown revivals (not covers) from the world of soul would have to include:

The Soul Children - Signed, Sealed, Delivered (I'm Yours)

Donny Hathaway - What's Going On

The Magnificent Seven - Ooo Baby Baby

Syl Johnson - Get Ready

Jimmy McFarland - Lonely Lover

James Carr - I Can't Help Myself

Otis Redding - My Girl

Baby Washington - What Becomes Of the Brokenhearted

Benny Gordon - Gonna Give Her All The Love I Got

Nella Dodds - Come See About Me (which actually WAS a cover!)

Jean Carn - Love Makes Me Do Foolish Things

I always thought Otis Redding's version of 'My girl' was total crepe...

I do kinda like Trijntje Oosterhuis 'For once in my life - Songs of Stevie Wonder, live' CD. She has just the right voice for it.

Ruby Turner did a Motown tribute album. Great voice, but ruined, if my memory serves me well, by the electro backing.

Everyone seems to have missed my big 'Cleethorpes Pier' spin

Val Palmer - Back In My Arms Again (Twin-Hit)

The Label was the equivalent to our old UK Embassy Record label

(remember them) which had one or two interesting cover versions as well

could be another thread................Rick... and there was the Cannon ep label lol

Prince Buster Does The Best Version Of "My Girl" In My Opinion.

Mention of Gil Bernal's recording of the Smokey song "Can you love a poor boy", reminds me of one of my fave versions of this song by Ronnie Walkerthumbsup.gif

Taken from the CD "Someday"

Blimey you all missed

Clay Hunt - Since I lost you / Kapp:rolleyes:

and I suppose this qualifies given it was cut but not released by Brenda Holloway as Lonley Boy : Eric Mercury & The Soul Searchers - Lonely Girl
