What IYHO is the worst record label you have come across ?

I know what you mean Dave..But there is one thing you can do to improve it's looks(as with all british stuff) Simply pop the middle out and It'll instantly look more like a real record then!!

Only joking there of course,don't come round and lynch me all you Brit collectors.

HI ALL this is easy! the very worst labels, are the one's that are disfigured by people, who have written on them,

And I am not talking about, for example records that have come from US RADIO stations, or A&R, As it goes without saying that writing is a part of the records history, and put on the record for obvious review reasons, we may find this annoying now, however this was an important job for the station at the time, that's why again for example the record company official A side or PLUG SIDE is blacked out and XX XX are on the reverse side?

The reason or Rule I also find acceptable on UK DEMOS, that come from the intended RADIO STATION, PRESS REVIEWER or PRO DJ, This would include records with NOC, as many PRO DJ would knock the centre out, this is a part of the records history,

In my collection I have some records from RADIO CAROLINE, would anyone on this site try and remove the sticker, of course not.

I remember, PEP had a 1st issue of DOBIE GREY "THE IN CROWD" YELLOW LONDON DEMO, WITH READY STEADY GO! stamped on it, to me it cant get any better,

But when you find a rare record that has "RON 4 SHARON", KTF WIGAN RULES!, SK&F??? AND SO ON REALY ANNOYS ME,

However I don't seem to care if it is a REGGAE RECORD??

what i find funny is that u.k record labels run by people who have had a long history collecting and the scene have really dull labels, youd think after theyd drooled over labels all their lives they would design fantastic labels, instead we get this

I disagree, I love labels like this that are totally handmade / DIY and incompetent looking. The only better ones have really band hand drawn art, I have a bunch of those.

I can't remember the name of the label I was looking for before, I've been trying to find it with no luck.

I think those uk stateside labels are real plain and boring looking..the ones that dont have the center hole punched out and play like a 33..terrible imo

it just sounds wrong

British 60's labels were almost uniformly dull. Plain black, plain blue. Thats why reggae is such fun to collect, they had some cracking designs in the late 60's. But in general, UK labels are terribly boring. Different story with the demos mind...

apparently the turbo 45 was an audition recording done by the group for all platinum. they refused to sign a contract but sylvia put it out anyways. I'm not sure if the tobin version was done before or after the turbo version.

Deffinitely Buddah for me ! I hate it when a really great record turns out to be on this label. So boring !
