  • Horses for courses I guess. But it's meant to be a gritty number IMO and Luther polishes it off too much for my liking.

probably cheapest easiest way is the brilliant 1967 lp 'great wilson pickett hits' on marble arch..top lp dean

  • For reference it also came out on a Scepter label 7" EP in Japan...sorry not for sale.

There's another version by Fred Bridges.

Also the version that is unissued that Ady plays as Luther Ingram, best of the bunch IMO.

But it lacks that gritty edge to it that Wilson Pickett's version's got.

yes your right horses for course, my opinion and yours.

Totally agree..............the grittier the better IMO!!!!

Caz

I know it's all opinions and that but Pickett's version wouldn't make the top 50 great Pickett records, and only ever seems to move people who already know it.

The Ingram version and it fills the floor anywhere I have ever played it.

It's issued on Wilsons' Double L album TOO LATE. Which i have. I also have a couple of albums, one of which is a TRIP label release of all his double L issued stuff, which i think its on too. As for 45, it's not issued U.S no...european release as you've mentioned, is possible but you'd have to confirm, as you're trying to. I'll dig my albums out if you like, Not the original one, and let you have one of them, if it's on them. I'll check and get back to you.

Just informing the masses that there is the benefit of a picture sleeve as well as a beautifully designed German Liberty label. ;-))

Yeah, where's Geoff with his usual jibe?

Think the one Ady plays was released on a Kent 45?

Yep.

I have all 3 and like em all but the Luther is a sexy dance record the others are just R&B stumblers.

Well said that man.

In your opinions.

The gritty 'dancer' does it for me.

So you keep saying. We all have different tastes.

I know. I don't know why I bothered responding to be honest. Just feeling mischievous I suppose. :wicked::D:lol:

It was also released on an EP in Portugal on the TECLA label with "Baby Don't You Weep" and "If You Need Me" by WP on one side and Otis Redding's "Pain In My Heart" and "These Arms Of Mine" on the other side. Nice art sleeve as well to that EP.

all great info again! i like the kent issue as luther ingram, great track, but the pickett version is a bit faster and imo better, but then again its the first version i heard so maybe im bias!

and yes there is definitely the grman liberty version (not sure if it is german but definitely european) with picture sleeve... obviously not vry common or up for sale much though...

I once had the wp version, german pressing.

Great version imho but the sound level is quite low and sounds pretty weak when played out. Would be interesting to hear the mastering on the japanese and portuguese pressings. Though probably the lp cut is the one that sounds best.
