I dont know and maybe its just me, but could it be that we are currently witnessing a new uprise on Rare Soul 45 prices ? Some ebay results of late have got me thinking

some examples

- a vg (at best) Little Nicky Soul at 1137 USD

- hamilton movement in vg+ 3.800 usd, a new high if I am correct and this 45 sure aint having a revival currently ?

- vickie labbat at 2.125 USD when it used to be around 800 ukp

- arthur griswold on fortune at over 4K when it used to be a 300 ukp/usd 45

maybe its the economic crisis that got people who are on the look for safe investments also invest in old vinyl ? maybe its a whole new group of buying collectors/djs with little experience/knowledge ? maybe I am totally wrong and its all just coincedence ? it sure aint effecting the low budget stuff but it really seems as if "rare" titles are getting more pricey once again.. ?

Well at least two of those you've listed have been bought by the same guy, who certainly has no problem in overbidding and paying toppermost of the toppermost cash for 45's.

Others have speculated he's a millionaire....I for one, don't really care about his finances.....but if you've got the money and you want the tunes.....!

I dont think you can "blame" one single buyer for it..I named several tunes and they are just a short snippet of what you can witness on ebay every week. but as I said, maybe I am wrong and it is just my personal impression. So far it certainly aint effecting my sales (what a pity!)

Little Nicky Soul very rarely shows up for sale over here Marc, and very rarely played out. The other side is also good so maybe somone has decided to play it. Vicky Labbat is the same, very rarely for sale and I can only ever remember hearing Steve Green play it out, so it's never been hammered. Hamilton Movement is one of the best 70's records of all time in my humble opinion, and there aren't too many good ones [also my humble opinion] so it's bound to be sort after. Nice label also. The price just reflects that two or more serious collectors/Dj's are looking for the same tunes.

Myself and Mick Smith hammered Vickie Labatt to death circa 1999- 2002 followed by several others. It was originally spun by Guy Hennigan albiet briefly at Stafford. It's popularity led to it being the initail release of the Grapevine 2000 series label.

yes, I also used to play it a couple of years ago (incl. UK venues) and its also been a fave in Scandinavia...sold my copy earlier this year for 700 UKP though LOL !

agreed phil, its a great record and I had a request by TWO Hip City regulars to bring and play it at our last event which is what I did...but..in that condition the price really escapes me I must admit. Esp bearing in mind its styrene..

Irish used to play Vikki Labatt as well. Thought it was well known play - i've heard it plenty of times. Pretty sure Pete Hulatt plays it also. Little Nicky Soul has been popular with mods for a while, thanks to Mik Parry and the Pow Wow nights, before that big play again for Greg at Capitol. The prices they are reaching against the conditions is the strange thing. These are mint prices or more.

Maybe the clean copies are running out and people are fighting for what they can get?

Having said all this look at the price Curtis Liggins is now reaching consistently. This used to get zero reaction even when it was popular on the funk scene a few years back. You could get it for £150. Why is it suddenly fetching so much, especially when the copies are clearly there??

Little Nicky Soul has been a big record on and off for years. Stafford for Keb various Dj's since, Mark Bicknell if I remember correctly, Andy Dyson.......
