Gold Band Posted January 3, 2010 Share Posted January 3, 2010 Title: marie knight - come on baby (hold my hand) (okeh 7147) 1962Artist: marie knightTrack: come on baby (hold my hand)Label: okeh 7147-1962 Record information:marie knights vocal talents were recognised early on. when she was five years old, marie who was born in sanford, florida, but raised in newark, new jersey where she sang the gospel. she recorded a few early sides with the quartet the sunset four. in 1946, she met sister rosetta tharpe, the nationally famous gospel singer-guitarist. they recorded hits for decca records, including…"didnt it rain,"šÂ…"up above my head. in the 1960s, marie cultivated a rhythm-and-blues career, touring with the likes of brooke benton, the drifters, and clyde mcphatter, she re-emerged in the mid-1970s to record gospel music; today, marie knight is a minister at gates of prayer church in new york, founded by the late dolly lewis. maries last recording was in 2007 let us get together (mc-0058).
