I have to admit, I am just a bit bored in front of my computer screen. So do not take this too serious. Above all I do not want to insult anyone.

Sometimes I have the feeling the famous green parka has become a kind of uniform. You know what I mean? I love Northern, so I just buy a parka, put a patch on it and you are a northern soul fan or kind a mod. I think this is a bit weird.

I cannot really express what I am feeling (unfortunately my English is too bad) but I it's a bit too retro, looking backwards.

in the early 80's I had a parker for when i was on my scooter.. but myself and my mates would never been seen wearing them once we got off our scooters.. you took them off straight after taking your lid off..... they was to stop our suits getting dirty... they was no good when they got wet as they weighed a ton.. patches no... why do you need them... if you have a parker and you ride a scooter people know your a mod.

Hi You you, uniforms, names and accesories have always been associated with the different youth culture groups. If you drive a scooter you could be called a scooterboy as opposed to just a non riding mod who didnt like getting his suit dirty.

I never wanted to be like my older bro who had done the mod thing so suedehead was one of my labels. Northern is a way of life not just what records you own, patches, beer towels and err talcum powder.

Does all this obsession with music, clothes and stuff make us Retro or modernist, dunno, who really cares, its confusing as it is.

I only bought it because you spit when you speak, like Roy Hattersley's Spitting Images puppet, and the parka keeps me dry.

Back in the day US Army parkas were the only choice, unless you were a 'Brutus boy', which was nowhere man! If you had one of the shoulder epaulet thingys unbottoned on your parka, this meant 'northern soul'!

I notice a good many bods (man in street - non soul fan) wearing parkas these days. Some of them come with patches already on it would seem. Not northern, but Vespa or sim. Some Brutus alike and others more authentic, like the one my boss wears, which is a bit of a worry.

As far as i go, it's up to you what you wear, i know the scene would see it as a thing to wear but i wouldn't wear one. I have a denim jacket i wear with patches on it as i like the jacket and stick to it.

Its taken a few years. You should see how many posts I have on www.DavidAbbotisagirl'sblouse.co.uk. And only me and Janine are on that one.

i used to have a parka and patches but the parka got oil on it and stopped writing so now i just use disposable bics now. as for the patches i wish i'd stuck with them as alot of events will become non smoking in the future

A week of cheltenham, paddy's day and watching that great rugger win in the maddest of welsh pubs (steve thomas local) too many triples, i fell at the first hurdle and melted or was that dribbled all over the floor tho not before saw the precisions slay em and hear the combinations being played. how much you want for that picture Winnie, my reputations at steak (n chips) 1 and 6.... deal

Scarboro mod revival between 1975 and 1980. Bank holidays. About 400 to 500 scooters with most of the riders in Parkers with the soul badges and also the scooters painted up in a similar style. In the evening meeting up at the 4 seasons (later Rudies).

At the time it was very much in fashion. Today no doubt it still exists in some way, and for sure another Mod revival will kick off again along with the fashion. What goes around etc.

If a plus 40 wants to keep the fashion alive, good luck.

When Teddy Boys are out and about they are still booted and suited as always.

The only difference is Northern Soul has took in at least 25 years of music style progression and in that time the fashion will have changed at least 5 times. What part you stick with is an individual choice.

When the Norther Soul museum eventially opens I hope it can reflect every style that influenced the scene, Parkers with patches aswell.
