Sold quite a few UK motown 45s on eBay recently. 

 

Mixed up a couple of items sent out (sent wrong record to two buyers - my mistake). 

 

1st buyer contacts me to let me know of my mistake and offers to return item. 

 

2nd buyer initiates ebay resolution immediately as 'item received not as described'.  Despite offering to send correct item when incorrect item is returned buyer does nothing.  Case is closed in buyers favour and a full refund made by ebay. So buyer has his/her money back and will still not return the record I sent in error. Neither record was expensive and 1st buyer has had a refund (as I cannot send him the record he bid on and won because 2nd buyer has "stolen it").

 

This is the first time this has happened to me - have other people experienced similar problems?

That's truly reprehensible behaviour, someone sent me the wrong record recently, the sensible thing to do it contact him, ask him where he wants it sent and tell him to get the other guy to send me my record - all the seller lost was the extra postage but it sorted his problem out and we both got our correct records.  Your customer number 2 is just a robbing b*stard and you should out him mate.  He's also a thief and there's a possibility you can take action against him

Hi Paul. I've never done it myself but am always aware of how easy a mistake it is to make. However that is appaling behaviour from a buyer.

I usually keep track of my sales with a paper copy and cross each each record off as I put it into the mailer to take to the post office.

from the other side... i won a mint copy of benny spellman's fortune teller on ebay. instead, the seller sent me an empty elvis presley 45 picture sleeve. she had sent my record to an old lady on the other side of the country. i sent the pic sleeve to old lady, and the old lady sent me my record in an envelope! (no cardboard or anything) of course the record arrived broken in two pieces. i contacted the seller for a refund and she deactivated her ebay account!

'bout 2 years ago i sold a double album on ebay, but one of the records was the wrong one, i realised myself about an hour after i posted it, contacted the buyer , told him what i had done so sent the correct one with a fiver in it for him to send me the other record back,........ i,m still waiting.

Years ago, I had the same situation happen.  Two orders got mixed up.  Both people contacted me.  The first person offered to send the 2nd person their right records.  The 2nd person berated me for making the mistake and said she'd send the first person the right record.  1st person never got the record (so I had to refund), and the 2nd person kept the record sent in error.  Lovely.

i had a similar problem i didn't sell a record but a Dictaphone brand new never used he received it. then started a claim with out contacting me saying it had a scratch on it eBay paid him a full refund for the same reason item not as describe .......£45.00 quid and he wont send it back even though he had be paid in full and evil bay and they wont help sh.t anit it then he left a negative feed back the worst part about it cost me over 100 quid about 8 month before never even had it out of box it was still sealed  Evil bay don't care   

I just sold a Pressing for £5, the original fetches £250 - £300.

They immediately raised it with E-Bay as not as described despite the listing saying it was a Press. Why not speak with me first and things could have been resolved. Refunded and told him to stick the record as it wouldn't be worth the trouble.

I did the same a few years back and contacted the 2 buyers.....both were good as gold and shipped 45s to each other and I simply paid them the respective shipping fees.

I just don't understand why people can't get along and be nice with each other.

 

I guess that's life for some people.

I bought a record on ebay and when I tried to pay, it said that his paypal account couldn't accept the payment at that time. I tried messaging him and emailing him about 10 times. No response. I ended up getting a non-paid item case opened against me and I still couldn't pay. I planned on appealing it, but since it was my first time not paying, ebay canceled it as a one time thing. So I lost my one time 'free strike' because of it.

Yesterday I sent the following message to someone in Canada who bought a £5 Pressing from me ( Marv Johnson - Come On and Stop) :-

Hi, I am sorry but I have had to issue you a refund.  When packing the record I noticed that there was a Chip in the edge plus a small Crack. It wasn’t there when I listed the item and no one is owning up to the damage. Sorry for any inconvenience.

 

Almost immediately I received this reply :-

You sure you're not lying? I know I got a great deal on this record and you're probably just saying it's chipped so you don't have to sell it to me. Send me a picture of the chip please if not I'll open a claim with eBay. Thanks.

Good price. Its a pressing and worth no more than £5 or £10. I take offence at being called a liar and I do not have to justify my actions. You have had a full refund. Open a claim with E-Bay, for what ? Do not appreciate being threatened in this way. If you feel you want to waste time opening a 'claim' then you go ahead. Hardly a multi million pound conglomerate.
Is this how we do business in Canada ? I work on trust and would never dream of double dealing or misrepresentation.

By the way Tezza, although I wouldn't be as harsh, I can understand why he did it.  This is a worthless record, but I won a Barry St John off someone for £33 and he messaged me saying he hadn't noticed a crack when he listed it.  "yeah right".

Seriously though, and to be honest, I'd refund the buyer and still send him the record, in all fairness.

The problem with a lot of pressings comes about when the buyer plays the record and realises how shocking the sound quality is.
