Even it is is R&B, which I would tend to disagree with (although it has some R&B characteristics), that would not stop it being called Northern.

 

Northern Soul encompasses a shed-load of different genres and styles - in fact there was a thread on here about it recently.

 

I don't think this can really be called R&B, not least given the very different style of R&B that is so-well established within the scene

Surely its worth mentioning Keith Minshull, that well known R&B dj, playing that fantastic R&B record, Mel Wynn, 34 years ago.
