I've just found the bootleg of this 45 while clearing out the loft.

 

Would anybody care to let me know the story behind it, what it's origins are, when, where and who played it? I'm surprised that demand would ever have been high enough for it to be booted.

 

Also came across Grand Piano Company and Julius Wechter boots. I guess that all three of these records come from the same (crazy?) era, in terms of popularity on the NS circuit.

 

I must have acquired these as part of a job lot over thirty years ago.

I remember them from the casino in I think 77. Esperanto was probably the more popular of the three if memory serves me right. Happy days. Pete Smith will be able to tell you all. Steve

Yep as Steve said Smiffy will know all the info. What I do know is that they are three of the most awful records ever to have been played. Absolute rubbish.

Soul Sam played Cartoon Candy Carnival. I'd spent a couple of weeks at another nighter and went back to the Casino one week and can clearly recall being on the balcony with a mate when he played and asking what the f*ck was this atrocity.

Julius Wechter was played covered up as MIke Post - Feelings in August 77, first play at the Casino was 4th Anniversary by Pep, not his copy, someone asked him to play it, you can oput it down but that is one brilliant instrumental.  Esperanto was slightly later, end 77 start 78, only played for 3 or 4 weeks before it was booted, thankfully, and I guess if Paul heard Sam play Cartoon candy at Wigan then I must have stopped going, I only remember it from Birmingham Locarno and that would have been August September 78.

Could have been my pal Rob from Oldham (East Rob on here) that I was talking to. Didn't know Wechter was that early though  - it's later in my head. Not that I'm disputing. I'm constantly amazed by people's memories. I have so many blanks!

Reason I can be so sure is because I recorded Pep's spot and on the following saturday, took the tape into his shop to ask him what the record was.  Also first play that night for Bell Boys via Alan Rhodes.  Four r & g's and four pondrax.  I remember that as well.    and the being sick next morning

Just been watching a video of Julius Wechter and his Baja Marimba Band playing 'Brasilia' on YouTube - They certainly have a distinctive style! Not sure what they are smoking though.
