what venue/allnighter do you wish you could have attended?

I caught the back end of the Torch from late 1972 indeed I still have my ticket upstairs for The OJAYS Feb 24th 1973...of course they never played due to the place being closed the week before, however 3 months earlier Major Lance did the Torch I think for the second time, broke all house records etc etc...

I was reminded by a friend of mine that I turned down a lift and went off to Leeds for the Weekend.....Ive regretted that "not going this weekend Tommy" ever since..

Have to agree with you there Dave Top of the tree as a N soul artist for me, closely followed by Gene Chandler, for the sheer volume of quality 2 siders that they brought to the scene.

Mind you i have to say, i regret not being able to see all the famous artists in their prime, if only i could have been born 6 or 7 years earlier.

One i do regret missing when i had the chance, was the Ric Tic Revue at Hinckley, the lads i was friendly with all went but i had just met the future wife & went to her house instead ! Bloody women only joking darling, honest !

Always wished I could of gone to Stafford allnighters

Although I live in Stafford and spent a lot of time at 'top of the world' even met my husband there we never went at that time. Used to go to a soul night there on a Monday night run by Kev Roberts in 1974. I was very very young! !

Paul we bought a tape of your records at the time of the 'Scotty Blackburns' probably from Dave Rimmer we've still got it!!

Jan 13th 1973......possibly the greatest day ever!

My beloved footy team Peterborough United were playing at home v Derby County in the FA CUP Third round Kevin Hector etc etc.....lots of bovver before during and after, massive kick off near the railway station after the game, back home to get out of our Bovver Boy outfits and change into our White Skinners and Budgie Jackets, mum yells out as she had done for the previous twelve months..."your Dinner will be on the table at 1 o'clock if you want it" me Dad a diamond geezer who had a wicked sense of humour would yell out " found that other back glove yet mate" and then laugh like a drain, I would of course give him the obligatory two fingers from behind the door, meet up later in the Bell & Oak for a lift to this all-nighter we had been told was "miles better' than our local Bletsoe all-nighter that we had been attending during '72.

Terry Tibbs had a moggie 1000 that used to ferry us about with Mick Veathman and Tommy Riedy in attendance I felt comfortable though these guys were what you would describe in todays lingo as "top notch Physcos" we only got 10 mile up the road when the brown envelopes appeared 'what we got tonight then Tommy"--"some stuff from Spain called Bustaiads, Chuddy says go easy they're rocket fuel"---'gimee 6 then to start the night off'--"how many do you want Doddsy" --I'll have a couple" Whooshhhhhh!!!! we were there in more ways than one------- in we go......BLOODY HELL.

Nothing prepared me to what I saw and heard that night.....as we left the next morning to visit some place in Burton where one of the DJ's at the Torch came from it was the smell of the place that stuck with me for so man years ...during the 90's Roy St Clair took me to Keele I walked into the main room at 2am in the morning when it hit me..... I shut my eyes and inhaled through my nose "arghhhh Tunstall"

The Torch closed it's doors in Feb 73 we had tickets for the OJAYS live who obviously never appeared..still have mine upstairs, I have some photos of the old place in a demolished state that we took one night when we went to Keele at that time the front was still intact as were the iron girders that formed the front canopy, Wilko kicked the door in and we actually got inside though no roof it commanded our respect it was if we were on sacred ground...I'll get some one to scan and post em if you like will give yo some idea of how small the place actually was. Offiicial Capacity 680...

Did most of them during the 70's, Wigan, Torch (my favourite!), Mecca, but always wished I had made it to The Twisted Wheel, but never did!

I get a load of stories off my hubby, about them days, as I was only a teenager then.....

We used to go to Stoke and stay with friends a lot a few years back, so one day we walked up to Tunstall, and he showed me where the Torch used to be, the wall's of the building was still there and a massive big tree growing in the centre of the place.

Went to most of the nighters in the early to mid seventies, up the junction, torch, wigan, cleethorpes pier etc. but gave it all up to get married and so missed out on stafford which is a place I think I would have enjoyed.

Any UK allnighter in fact hehe

I regret never getting to any of the original clifton hall all-niters in Rotherham . Most of the time they were on i was stuck out in Germany care of H M Forces :angry: , and every time i came home on leave there was never anything on .

Strange one this one but my sister and her pals who were original mods used to go to an allnighter in my hometown, Perth. It was called the Ingle Neuk. I was too young and just stood outside gazing at the mods going in. They played original R&B and it attracted the main mod squads from across Scotland. The house band were called the Vikings who later became the Average White Band. Always felt there was something I was missing.

Edwin Starr was on in Chesterfield couple of month before he passed on..and I forgot about it...bugger

I would like to have been present at the torch when they were unveiling records like cindy scott, eddie parker, the glories, the tempos, younghearts etc; must have been incredible witnessing such things. I often wonder, did they take off like satellites or did they need coaxing? I didn't come onboard till 74/75 when the vibe had changed & different records were being 'pushed'. I can't really remember which ones, so the impact couldn't have been that great. one that does stick in my mind though, & that used to get on my tits, was 'baby sugar I love you' by princella & sidney jones(?) soul sam flogged it to death. may have been 1976?

I should love to have gone to The Wheel. I can only imagine the atmosphere when Boy From New York City hit the decks, followed by Working On Your Case and Dr. Love.

I don't suppose any tapes exist do they? The cassette was only just available when it closed wasn't it?
