Imagine my surprise to find that someone copied the list off here then posted it onto KTF as if he'd posted the clips up. Hardly worth me losing sleep over but what a f*cking cheek!

How? When you think, it takes over half an hour per clip to get one of those on you tube - have to rip it from the dvd, convert it to mp4 then send it up - that's over 110 hours I've spent doing these, I don't want a medal or anything but they could have mentioned the original poster, that's all.

I remember an article on UK soul in Record Collector back in the early 90's, was looking forward to reading it, thought to myself "this seems a bit familiar", and it was - the author had copied it more or less word for word from articles I'd written in my own fanzine! I did the sleeve notes for a really good cd called Cooler Shakers which came out mid 90's, when it hit the shops the name of the sleeve note author had been changed to the person who compiled it!

It's still a compliment...... but a very annoying, infuriating, teeth-clenching, foot-stamping, fist-shaking one to accept! I know you put an extraordinary amount of time and effort into these clips for our edification and for this we are very grateful. I don't know how you have the patience.

Karen, you know me, I just posted a polite email on the site, I've been a member on there since inception so they are used to a few profanities, it's no big deal honest, in fact it's more the fact it took a couple of hours to type up the list they printed

Heard something on the news yesterday about You Tube paying people who put up clips.

I did think at the time, Pete will now get paid for all his time and effort...

Is this the cd you compiled? If so was one of the first Northern cd's I purchased....

It is the CD but I didn't compile it. I think you'll find the notes are credited to John Reed. I did them. Or 90% of them.

you tube from what I've read, and other sites like them are going to run into copyright trouble soon. They were last I read trying to negotiate something with some of the majors. Sky was gunning for them with the footie clips that were posted too.

Yes, you'll have to be the copyright owner to be in with a shout of getting any slice of royalties and I suspect the number of hits/advertising revenue required prior to royalties kicking in will only apply to (relatively) very few clips. The chubby kid with the light saber thingy springs to mind. I'm sure whoever shot that would have got some dosh under the new regime when it happens (although he did successfully for breach of privacy in the U.S. and settled with the defendantts (his classmates who put the clip on the web without his permission)).
