Details of a most recent Numero Group Release in their Eccentric Soul series....

Eccentric Soul  THE SHIPTOWN LABEL (2XLP) - NUM 081

From a humble storefront studio located in a shoeshine parlor on Norfolk, Virginia’s Church Street, Noah Biggs built a world. Hustler by day, gambler by night, the always-in-a-suit Biggs took a gaggle of off-brand singers and combined his connections and charisma to forge timeless soul music during a period of deep upheaval.

Compiled here are 25 of Shiptown’s most compelling sides recorded between 1965-1977, spread across 2 LPs, from the likes of Ida Sands, The Soul Duo, The Anglos, Dream Team, The Grooms, Positive Sounds, Barbara Stant, Wilson Williams, Art Ensley, and yes, Flip Flop Stevens.

a bit of audience participation ...

if you had to pick just the one track of the 24 on offer via this fine release to hear peak time at a event

which one would it be....

Grooms- ‘I deserve a little bit more’ is a fine harmony soul labour. The ballads are the pick of the compilation imo.

Probably go for the Positive Sounds, not just because i've played it in downbeat rooms before, but because both sides featured are on the same 45, thus giving the chance of spinning either side, with one being slightly deeper than the other, I have allways liked the Wilson Williams 'I cant get over loosing you', a nice 45 IMO.
