July 30, 20195 yr Where to you start? theres an old saying .. "whatever he touched, turned to gold" well this is true in the case of Van McCoy. Baby Dont change your mind, Walk away from love, through to Sandi Sheldon on OKEH, to Billy Woods , A love you can depend on, etc etc. the man was a true musical genius. His arranging was up there, sometimes above and beyond the Big hitters, like Gamble / Huff, Barry White, Berry Gordy's Motown The Hustle is a masterpiece of orchestral arrangement, David Ruffin sang his heart out on WAFL, with another arrangement masterpiece behind him. he was indeed MIDAS, i have nothing but admiration and awe for him.
July 30, 20195 yr I can only echo what Ian has already said, Van McCoy was a Musical Genius... I always enjoyed hearing the Shuffle from the first day I heard it as a youngster I knew then I was listening to something magical....

January 3, 20214 yr For sure such an underrated writer/producer/arranger and singer, from all the conversations I've had with people who knew and worked with him he really was also a top all round nice guy. Chris Bartley says working with him was the high point of his career, everything he did was so professional. Always melodic, well arranged and produced songs, be they the hard hitting "I'm in a world of trouble" " Touch my heart" "You're gonna make me love you" or those heart rendering love songs like "I'll find a way". He's right up there with all those greats in the "old world" soul scene. 👍
