About 12 years ago got hold of a copy of Nancy Butts on Flaming Arrow, I Want To Hold Your Hand (How I Get Lonely). Price was relatively cheap as a box of them had just turned up. If my memory serves me right the "talk" at the time was that either the producer/record owner or Nancy herself had uncovered a box stashed away or something like that.

Anybody got any more information on his rumour?

Anybody an idea of current value and availability?

May have a copy for sale in the near future.

I'll start you off, no doubt there'll be others on here who can fill you in with all the finer details.....I got my copy in the mid 90s too when a lot turned up courtesy of the daughter of the producer/record label owner, who found them in his garage when she was clearing his house after his death.....now that's the story I heard, think there were copies of others on the label too....

I remember seeing this in the late 80's. Had it on tape since then as well. Guy first played this and certain if memory serves me correctly that he got it from label owner, my guess mid 80's around the same time he got Joseph Webster which he played at Stafford.

There was a rumour that it was never released as well and pressed solely due to demand on these shores. Like you say back then it was cheap as plenty of copies to be had.

Pretty sure all or the vast majority came form the owner (Eugene Davis) or his immediate family.

Only released in the late 1980s, although it's a late 60s recording. Practically every copy is on this side of the Atlantic. My guess is that only a couple of hundred were pressed and all are nestling in collections, hence the relatively high price. I offered one for sale on here in February at £110 and could have sold it many times over. I am led to believe Guy Hennigan was the first dj to play the record and that no original 60s acetate exists.

Like most people, picked mine up in the 80's for the princely sum of £15..the guy i bought it from had a few of these, i understand he got them from a relative of the singer or producer..

if memory serves me correctly from topic on RSF Gareth, it was said 300 copies done.

A-ha. I'm beginning to get the picture.

Was never really sure on the history of this tune and the relative "newness" of the appearance of the label always belied the age of the tune so I wasn't sure if it was a "moody" pressing or bootleg. Mine looks exactly the same as Shortersoul's scan so I guess it's one of 300 described by Chalky.

ITS £150 in the book and that is the 4th edition,its agreat tune imho,remember guy spinning it mid eighties,really love letter full of tears also a track which never seems to get regognition nice crossover tune.

Was played covered up as Eula Cooper, if memoery serves me right, Guy played it at the 100 Club in the early 9ts, still covered as EC, it was new to me then, altho' the genuine title was probably an open secret.

Im sure some of these turned up in a local record store in Essex or some such place................maybe me, memory aint what it was ????.

Hi Tony , the story of the Nancy Butts 45 , was that a non northern soul friend of mine was married to the daughter of record producer Eugene Davis , and on one of his holidays to detroit in the mid eightys , he brought back a box of 70-80 copys of i want hold your hand , and 3 copys of joseph webster on crow , and a couple of other bits , these ended up in Carmel records , southend on sea , and i think Rod Dearlove brought what was left . they were not pressed for the uk market , and now seen quite thin on the ground

sadly Eugene davis passed away earlier this year , hope this is of help .
